We're just talking about the dumb black box on the window. I just snipped the wire and terminated it. I didn't realize there was a separate unit.
Yes, there is. That kind of a box, and the black connector is the one, which was supposed to need those two paper clips, but that didn't work for me:
To my opinion, there is no need to cut the cables of the black box on the windshield. It has two connectors, one is maybe 2" away from the box and another maybe 4" away... The easiest way is just to disconnect those two connectors, put some tape on and tuck the remaining cables under the trim panel:
I never removed the actual Cpu box in my GS I believe is under passenger seat. But discounting the cpu caused codes?
Yes, it does. At least it did with my car. Even with those paper clips (which should have prohibited the codes from appearing) inserted. And why I wanted to get rid of the actual unit? I've put so much extra weight on my car with sound isolation material, amplifiers, sub boxes, cables etc., that if I could throw off some dead weight, I certainly would like to.
I thought the On Star is the problem that causes the car battery to go dead after a week or so. I haven't disconnected mine because I don't have a clue how without causing issues. Hooking up the charger every time I bring it home is getting old.

...... if I could throw off some dead weight, I certainly would like to.
I handled the On-Star unit for a Saturn Sky. It is feather-light. Between the main unit, the wiring harness and antenna, all combined might weigh a couple of pounds at most. It is surely not worth messing with unless you have the car taken apart for a completely different reason. If you are worried about a pound or 2 of dead weight, go to the bathroom before getting in your Corvette.
Lol, you should see the extremes some guys go too to get these cars below 3k lbs... that box is lightwork but every little piece counts when your building a racecar.
