My CTEK battery maintainer is no longer working through my cigarette lighter. I only get red lights on the plug and orange lights on the maintainer. I bought a new battery but no change. I used the clamps to directly access the battery in the car. The clamps do not have indicator lights but the base give orange lights. How long do these maintainers last. I looked on the CTEK web site and followed all of their recommendations but no change. Do these things wear out. Do I need to replace it?
Many Corvette Forum members use CTEK tenders and love them. Me? Not so much. After two failures (my son had one quit prematurely too) I pitched them and went with the Deltran Battery Tender. I couldn't be more pleased. I've gotten a couple of years now with them without a problem. HA. They'll probably both blow-up this afternoon. NOoooooooooooo.
Anyway, I'd maybe give a Deltran one a try. Good luck.
I had a Battery Tender Plus fry itself on me when it was somewhere between 12 and 15 years old. Replaced it with a Ctek 3300 and it's worked great for 19 years now.
I also have a Schumacher SP1297 that's 9 years old. I use it to cycle through the 4 batteries at my rural property and keep them topped off when I am there. It's a 3A maintainer, which I wanted so it would charge the multiple batteries faster. It's never given any problems and seems to work fine.
I just had the cigarette lighter adapter fail on my ctek. I switched to battery post and engine block and it worked fine. The new adapter barely fits in the female end whereas the old one went in easy. About $15 on Amazon. To my dismay, the new one needed to be wiggled to work right
