Default 05 instrument cluster

Looked all over the forum; no luck: 05 coupe, all stock, 58k miles, all gauges inop. Hud works, blinkers and lights work,
gonna buy a replacement on ebay, don't really care what mileage it shows (never gonna sell it). Does it have to be
programmed at a dealer, or can I just plug it in. I have it out so no biggie to replace. Thanks anybody. Edit, car runs
like a champ after new auto trans and new HB. Also, anybody know what years of cluster will work?

According to the salvage shops, the 05 is a one-year only cluster. Dino's

Don't believe it will need programming. And the mileage IS stored in the cluster unit, not BCM.

Yes and now on the dealer flashing.

The no part, is if you don't care what the mileage shows on the speedo.

The yes part on dealer or AC Delco speedo shop flashing, since then can pull the actual mileage from BCM/ECM, call up Ac Delco, to have this write a VCM file that they can download in SPS to reflash the speedo, so it does have the correct milage.
A/C delco will only write the rifle file for the dealer/ac delco speedo shop, so need to find either that will do such for you, if you do install the dash yourself.
Note, the other reason that AV delco will not allow that vin specific VCM file number to be released in the wild, you could use the same VCM number to SPS reflash the speedo over every month yourself, to ease the miles on the speedo when driving it then, using the same number over and over again for months.

The other option, get the speedo, pull the mileage from the BCM yourself, then send the speedo off to a third party to reflash the speedo, don't drive the car so mileage does not change until you get the speedo back in the car.

Hence flash in a new BCM or ECM to the car, during the flash it will pull the mileage from the other places and flash that into the new module. Its just the speedo cluster that during a flash to get the correct mileage into it, its not the normal flash procedure, but the VCM method with that specific mileage that is needed Ac deleco has to write the file for the mileage given to them by the dealer at the time of the flash to download from them.

So if you can find a dealer that will reflash the speedo with installing it, best guess around $200, and would be about the same price as third party, but dealer only take a few mins to flash, instead of the wait time/not driving the car for weeks until you do get the cluster back to install it them

Thanks much for that info. Still muddling thru what the problem is with cluster.
It worked for a minute after I held battery terminals together, then quit.
