So, I have been told that LS3 crate motors are on backorder. I need a new motor for my '08.
It unfortunately went too soon, under 45,000 miles last Sept. It might have had a pre-existing condition of some sort, which is why I was having problems with catalytic converters, stock & pair of new ones (I'm out over $4,500) that got all clogged up.
I have been sitting on loan since December, just waiting for LS3's to become readily available. Contacted 2 other places to increase my odds. Sucks, but no luck so far.
Consider looking into having your existing LS3 rebuilt, or buy a rebuilt LS3. There are a few great rebuild shops that can build one better than a new crate engine would offer. Just rebuilding it to tighter specs is an improvement. But such shops also offer power upgrades, the mild upgrades retain idle quality.
I would prefer this one w/ the "hot cam" over the stock "vanilla" block. After research, I would need a higher stall converter & maybe some tuning.
Last fall, after the bad news, I researched here on this site that some guy(s) has this and they have issues. So, I'm hoping they don't anymore. Maybe someone very knowledgeable about that particular crate engine option could chime in here??
Then maybe I can pull the trigger on getting this.

First, let me say that I don't know crap about all these engines......
But would something like this work? It's about the same price as the one listed at Summit.
Ok, I went ahead and ordered the LS376/480 495HP Hot Cammed LS3 Crate Engine from Chevrolet Performance by way of Summit.
THE HOT CAM ADDS HEAT TO THE LS3
Our engineers took a production LS3 6.2L (376 cubic inches) and swapped the stock camshaft for the racing-inspired LS Hot Cam , which delivered a stunning 495 horsepower and 473 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s nearly 14 percent more power and torque from a simple camshaft change!
We wasted no time in adding that terrific combination – dubbed LS376/480 – to our crate engine portfolio. The key to the power boost is the Hot Cam’s 0.525-inch lift on both the intake and exhaust sides, along with 219-degree/228-degree duration specs. That’s less lift on the intake side than the stock LS3 cam, but considerably more duration, allowing the valves to stay open longer to draw in more air from the rectangular-port L92-style heads.
While you have the engine out of your Vette, get rid of the hot cam. It's an abomination if used in an LS3 headed engine. You have killer heads, killer intake manifold, nice static compression ratio, hopefully long tubes. All good stuff. It would be a shame to strangle it with a .525" lift cam. LS3 heads really shine at +.600 valve lift. The cam (linked below) has better lift figures and the same amount of overlap. Manners would be similar between the two. Difference being that the Pat G cam would be a huge improvement all through the rev range.

OMG!! So, the motor & associated parts I was going to send to the dealer to install, they called back and said they will NOT do it because we did not get it from them.
I am having difficulty understanding why one of the few Authorized Chevrolet Performance Dealers in the state will not install a Genuine Chevrolet Performance Crate Engine.

Why would you use a dealer anyway? No Vette or hot rod shops near you?

So, I had to cancel my order from Summit.
An LS3 with any cam other than the stock one isn't emissions compliant. Doesn't matter that the hot cam is a chevy piece.

There are not a whole lot of Chevrolet Performance Authorized Centers in the country. Only 88, 3 in Wi. Thought they would do stock performance mods. Guess not.
I do have like a Corvette specialist here nearby, but they really don't do mods and tuning. FML.
It's kinda hard for my wife to be calling all over the place, since she is on the phone over 10 hrs. a day for her job. Me? Fuhgeddaboutit! I can't really hear on the phone.
Many places don't respond to emails. What are they? The new "snail mail"?
