My son is considering the purchase of a ‘10
GS mn6. Car is perfect. Less than 10k miles. 4lt with dry sump, - std suspension. No mag ride.
The car rides very rough. I have an ‘11 GS with mag ride and it rides significantly better. A buddy has an ‘08 with std suspension. It rides decent as well.
Were there different suspension options in 2010? Different spring options? Different shock options?
Thx for any insight.
Well, if it still has the original run flats on it, they’ll be as hard as hockey pucks by now and that would certainly contribute to the harshness. I think all of the GSs shipped with the same suspension except those with the optional mag ride. My ‘11 doesn’t have mag ride, and there’s nothing soft about the way it rides. It’s a sports car. I expected nothing less.

As far as I know, all of the Grand Sports had the same springs and sway bars. Only options should have been either standard or mag rid shocks.
If it is riding rough and the tires are new and of a good quality, I would check to see if maybe someone replaced the shocks with something more performance oriented.
If they are stock shocks, then it is likely the tires. If they are Hankook run-flats, then that is likely the problem.

Good stuff above. I will say that my 2013 GS with mag ride came from the factory with ZR1 sway bars. I added a TVS blower to it and figured ZR1 sways would be a good upgrade over the stock sways to help with the added weight of the blower. We pulled the "stock" GS bars off and noticed they were the exact same as the new ZR1 bars. Same size, same part numbers, etc. I think my GS was one of the last C6 GS's built. Could have been that GM was long on ZR1 bars and out of GS bars at the end of the production run. Always wondered about that. Never heard of anyone having a similar experience either.
I could have sworn I read on here but don't quote me that some cars when shipped new had shock spacers on them from the factory so they wouldn't bounce during transit and were to be removed during PDI dealer inspection?
Previous owner(s) could have replaced shocks or suspension bushings. Many people "upgrade" stock suspensions looking for a 0.1 second faster autocross lap and create a car nobody wants to ride in.
My 2013 GS with Mag Ride would ride pretty harsh, even in TOUR MODE. I got the Mag Ride Module reprogrammed by Jim Mero and now in TOUR mode, it rides so much smoother and not jarring like before. SPORT mode is definitely stiffer but still nowhere near as OEM TOUR was. Huge difference.

This, or dealer never removed the shipping pucks in the shocks to begin with.
Also, pull a tape from tip of fenders to ground on lever ground, since car may have been lowered, and it too low, you just run out of suspension and tagging off the stops instead.
The mag ride cars definitely ride a little softer, but if you're driving the other car on roads you're not used to, it might be the road itself. There's a road on my way to work that you'd swear is as bumpy as a gravel road in Iraq, but a little down the road they've repaved it and it's totally smooth. The older section will shake like a girl in the club and convince you that any car rides like crap.
My old 2010 GS rode fine for me. It didn't ride like an old man Buick, but it rode fine for a sports car

Hi jost, In 2010, Magnetic Ride was standard on any Grand Sport with a manual and dry sump.

Here is team Corvette introducing the 2010 GS and there is no mention of Mag Ride as standard on a manual and dry sump. I mean your the guru here but quite frankly I never heard of this. Was this discontinued in later years because I had a 2013 bought new with manual and dry sump and I did not have Mag Ride.
Well, it was 15 years ago. Lol I think where I am going wrong is with the convertible. If you had a coupe with a manual transmission, that drove Goodyear generation two tires, dry sump, and magnetic ride. If I recall correctly, the convertible with the Goodyear generation two tires had a dry sump. And I believe all automatics and convertibles did not have mag ride. Or something like that. Lol
Attached as an example is the 2011 order guide. Seems that F55 was a standard option with the ZR1, and with the Z07 package for the Z06. In all other cases it seems to be ‘available’, i.e. not standard. Unless I’m reading it wrong.

I always wondered what drove the gen2 tires. They came on my 2012 manual coupe and were MUCH better than the gen 1 tires. Still not great, but not as bad. They were kinda decent once hot actually.
