Hello everyone, I was just wondering how this works being that it will not be out for a while.
-Are they even taking orders for C6's yet?
-Is there a set date when the car will be unveiled?
-How much of a deposit is usually required?
As much as I love the C5, I am holding out until I see some real pictures and specs on the C6. I remember when my friend got a 97' Fairway Green with black interior Corvette, and man was it beautieful. The best part was that he was one of the first people to get one, and man did it turn heads. That is the ultimate feeling, having the newest Corvette before the rest of the world catches up. It will definitely be a tough choice, I am either going to get a 2004 Blue Zo6 or Blue C6. If you have bought brand new before please fill me in, as I have not. Thanks :chevy
From: Muncie, Indiana ...... Can I buy an amplifier on time ... I ani't got no money now but I'll pay you before I die
Re: Does anyone know the ordering process for a C6? (BlueVetteC12)
It's supposed to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show next January. There are probable some dealers that are taking deposits to put your name on a waiting list. GM won't start excepting order until sometime around April 2004.
Re: Does anyone know the ordering process for a C6? (The Corvette Junkie)
Ok, thank you. By the way, if you purchased a C5 brand new, how much of a deposit was required. I'm just looking for a rough estimate here. More like $1000? Or more like 1/3 of the cost of the car?
Re: Does anyone know the ordering process for a C6? (BlueVetteC12)
Blue,
The best thing I can say is if you want to buy the car then put down as much as you can, unless you want a $1000 car payment per month. That's about what you'll have if you put down $1000.
Or maybe consider leasing if that would work for you.
Re: Does anyone know the ordering process for a C6? (JLinNY)
Yea, your right. Thats a good point. What I'm thinking though is this: Lets say they deliver them July 2004, and I know I will have enough to buy it in cash at that time. Instead of putting down all that money right now, I just want to see if I could put down one or two thousand to ensure that I get one of the first ones, and then pay it outright before I take it home. I hope they make it in electron blue. If they do, Im throwing a --->
Re: Does anyone know the ordering process for a C6? (BlueVetteC12)
Just a little bit of info on your question.
No one is taking orders on the C6 yet as it is not even slated for production until mid to late 2003.
If you look at Autoweek's article that was posted, you'll see that the C6 will be shown to the GM muckity mucks in mid spring.
About the only this you can do at this time is what I did.
Tom Jumper Chevrolet in Atlanta, GA is taking deposits on the C6. Contact Mark Thomas or Mike Ferrari and they will make out a standard order form, like you were buying a car and put you on a waiting list. They require $1,000.00 deposit. They put on the form that if you decide to cancel the order for any reason up to and including when the car comes in, they will give you 100% of your money back.
They are the only dealership that will take deposits on that car.
I was very skeptical and flew to Atlanta and was picked up and taken to the dealership where I spoke with several salesmen who advised that the owner of the dealership allowed them to do that do to the extreme amount of Corvettes they sell.
I got a signed deposit contract and was placed on a waiting list where I am #22 waiting to order my Vette.
My wife is an attorney and looked over the contract and said it was a legal and binding contract. That was good enough for me.
So I'm sitting and waiting.

Just because a contract is legally binding doesn't mean it's a reasonable deal for BOTH parties. Does it have a pricing algorithm based on MSRP or some other bench mark, or are you just the 22nd guy they will call to offer a car at $10K over MSRP or whatever they think they can get away with. Is that what your $1000 interest free loan to them is buying?
Re: Does anyone know the ordering process for a C6? (SWCDuke)
I just to spoke to Mark at Tom Jumper and I am sending in my deposit of $1000. he told me that they have 8-9 people on the list. you are guaranteed to get the vehicle at MSRP.
Re: Does anyone know the ordering process for a C6? (SWCDuke)
Duke,
If you read the posting I put up a couple of months ago in reference to this same question you are asking. The answer is, YES, YES, YES and again YES!!!!!!!!!! I had Mark Ferrari put in writing on the deposit contract that he and the sales manager signed in BLOOD!!! that the car would not be one penny more then MSRP!!!!!!
Cynicism dose not become you. Skeptism yes, but not Cynicism. God couldn't convince you. You don't trust anyone. :blueangel:
Re: Does anyone know the ordering process for a C6? (BlueVetteC12)
Make sure that deposit is rufundable... or if its not, don't put down 1/3 the price of the car. Its a long time before you can take delivery and a crazy world.

I recall prior threads on this subject, but I can't remember who was involved two months ago or what was specifically said by a particular participant. If you got a pricing algorithm, and "line number" that you think is reasonable for you, then that's okay for you.
I've seen lots of dealer abuse over the years, so I warn folks to be aware and skeptical. Always get a written contract with a firm price. Being as how pricing is not known on an unannounced car, the logical alternative is to base the pricing algorithm on invoice or MSRP.
If one places a deposit to be on a waiting list without a written contract that includes a reasonable and clear pricing algorithm and order time frame, you're got a good change of being jerked around, but maybe it's deserved for lack of due diligence.
Re: Does anyone know the ordering process for a C6? (SWCDuke)
Awesome, thanks for the information. It sounds like you have done quite extensive research. I am going to trust you on that one. One more question. The $1,000 guarantees your spot to buy it right? What if you wanted to lease it instead? Would it be a completely different process??? Also, does anyone know where the MSRP will lie around??? I remember when the C5 came out, wasn't it actually a little bit cheaper than the 96'???
Re: Does anyone know the ordering process for a C6? (BlueVetteC12)
1- Some dealers will take an order now for the C6
2- Car will be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2004
3- Depends on the dealer. Some require nothing, some $500, some $1,000
I'm glad I don't have to think about this stuff as I get a new Corvette every year, I expect mine to be built during the first week of production as usual.
Re: Does anyone know the ordering process for a C6? (Another Yellow)
To Answer your Question in reference to leasing vs buying.
They don't care if you lease or buy as they get their money regardless.
Their only interest is to move vehicles and not loose too much money.
Over the years I've bought 6 Vettes and got screwed on about 3 of them from salesmen lying to me about the price I would pay when the car came in.
I was too young and too excited to see the car.
I'm a lot older and smarter now and know what to look for and what to do and what not to do with salesmen. This will be the 4th. I won't get screwed on.
If you do order a car from Tom Jumper Chevrolet and go through Mike Ferrari or Mark Thomas, tell them I said Hello. They read my posting a couple of months ago in response to Marks posting about giving people the opportunity it put a deposit on a C6. He will know who I am.

Sounds like a good idea to have a crisp brand new Corvette every year. You are definitely the Corvette player of the forum. But what are you going to do when you find that special one? Is it possible you may become tied down? :jester
