Code P0430 After Shift Cable Replacement
The shift cable on my '06 with 65,000 miles broke yesterday. The battery also died because of prolonged use of the emergency flashers.
I had the car towed using a dolly because it was parked in an indoor public parking garage. AAA towed the car to a performance shop, where they replaced the shift cable and the battery. As I was pulling into my driveway, I noticed that the check engine light was on. I took the car to O'Reilly this morning. They came up with a P0430 trouble code, Catalytic System Low Efficiency Bank 2. Is it possible something got knocked loose between the towing and the shift cable replacement? I hate to think there is a problem with the catalytic convertor.

I would check the O2 sensors for broken wire, possibly they broke a wire in the process of R&R of the cable.
I will say here in Florida with high heat and humidity our (AAA) tow drivers are familiar to lift the rear and you in the car with foot on the brake they place the car in drive and lower it and your on your way.
Just got to remember once you turn it off and no reverse, but gets you home or to repair facility.
Have to say happen to me once and my buddy twice, both times the tow truck driver knew how.
If the shop followed Service Information it says in step 3 remove the cats..I’d ask them if they did do this and make sure both clamps are tight on the passenger side cat and are not leaking…a leak will cause a P0420/0430 to set…that performance shop probably doesn’t know that.

The shop owner told me to bring my car in and they would take a look at it. He didn't think it was anything they did. It is possible that it is coincidental, but it just seemed strange to me that the problem started after they removed the cats. I don't know if this shop actually troubleshoots problems like this as they do in some of the YouTube videos. I guess they just don't have the time.

Well if they did remove the cats it’s a “comeback” for them and are responsible that the car is right….it they can’t diagnose let THEM take the car to someone who can and they can pay for the repair and not you.
