Default FOB oops

My son recently purchased a ‘10 GS. It came with only one fob. He had it a week & left fob in his pocket & it went through the wash. After drying it out & new battery it actually works ….. but battery dies after ~10 days.

Dealer says a new fob & programming will cost roughly $600. Ouch! Is there another alternative vs. going through the dealer? I’m guessing not but curious what y’all have to say. Thx.

I went swimming with my fob in my pocket twice, dried it out and it worked.for a long time. I think it has been 6 years since I last replaced the battery.. I think it is time to get a new battery, thanks for the reminder! Get a new battery first, if you bought the new battery at a store that doesn't sell a lot of batteries you could have gotten an old battery, try wal-marrt. A new fob on Amazon can be had for $75-$100,I don't believe they are that difficult to program.Someone who knows the procedure to program one will chime in.

Thanks... Was thinking of my Ford Truck which requires 2 fob’s to program another one. So if you’ve lost one or it doesn’t work it becomes a super PITA to get a new one programed.....

Walk in the park, since can put the fob, even without battery in the Glove box slot to get car in to ACC mode, so you can use Tech 2 to program in new fobs.

As for fob, just need to break it down to this level to get board out of case,

To spray out any corrison that has formed between the pins and traces.
Note, get board with front cover out of front face first, then take board out of case once removed from the front cover.

If you list your location, may be someone close with Tech 2 to give you a hand. Also with tech 2, easy to program out any Fobs that he may not have, and program back only the fobs that he does have in hand in about 3 mins. As for fobs, there are some after market fobs that work and will not break the bank.

As long as you have a key that will turn the lock above the license plate, you should be able to program a new fob from scratch even if you don’t have a working fob. Use the long procedure as described here https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...tructions.html

Buy a name brand battery. The Amazon Chinese ones don’t last

I bought a pair of cheap chinese 2013 C6 knock-off fobs off EBAY HERE, TWO FOR $30.44 for back-up purposes to my pair of OEM fobs. Programming them the easy way required a working OEM fob. They work fine.

A programmed fob is only required if you want to perform the short procedure and add in a fob to be the next available logical number. If you want to first erase all known fobs and start from scratch so that the 1st fob programmed becomes #1, and so on, you do the long procedure for which you can’t have a programmed fob in the cabin with you. I’m not guessing at this, that’s the way it works and is pretty well documented in the link I posted above. Some aftermarket fobs do work well, and I’ve got one programmed in as my 4th fob. The most common complaint I’ve read about is that some aftermarket fobs won’t open the hatch.
