If you want to avoid a custom tune, you may want to stick with an LS2. I'm not sure about that, though. Maybe someone else could comment on running an LS3 with an LS2 stock tune.

This is just 'thinking the issue trough' so take it as that. If you have a stock LS2 and replace it with a stock LS2 then everything should hookup and match. It would IMO be as close to a 'plug and play' as you could get. Hopefully it will work out. By the way, are you sure the old engine needs replacing or could it be rebuilt?

I'm thinking the OP is confused because the GS - LS3 that had the dry sump with the manual transmissions.
