Parked next to a C8 a couple of days ago, it was an opportune time to do a comparison between these two generations.
Love both cars - and really noticed some things jump out as I compared them carefully side by side.
Toys.
Another interesting video, Ken. I kinda do the same visual comparison every time I park next to a C8 as well. Like this! And even added a C1 for good measure!

That is such a cool photo - siblings separated by decades!
I owned a 2008 c6 z51 manual for 143k miles purchased new. Then a c8 z51 with mrc for 4 years and 34k miles and now I’m back in a 2013 60th anniversary 427 convertible that I just picked up two months ago with 9k miles,.
needless to say I found your video interesting and I have quite a lot to add.
both great cars. The c8 is quicker with its dct meanwhile the 427 MGW short throw shifter c6 convertible is the visceral driving experience.
at 66 this month I’m more after the visceral experience than anything else. The c6 delivers.
My main gripe on the C8, was it went to mid engine to allow for more horse power, and its not until the C8 ZR1 that is getting that kind of horsepower to justify the car going to mid engine in the first place.
Hell, the motor in the C8 Z06 was only putting out 670HP/460 lb⋅ft (624 N⋅m) of torque at 6,300 rpm (only up 20 HP from the C7 Z08 motor, but hundreds down on torque), and that was never enough power to justify the car going to mid engine in the first place.
The other one, is trying to make it look like a Ferrari like car for the ***-less chaps clan to buy with less money, but it coming way up short when compared to them in just about every way.
Hence can still remember the amount of low mile/dam near brand new C8 sell backs on the dealer show floors, that owners where trading them back in with only owning them months, after they did take them to elite car meet-ups, and import sports car owners where laughing at/looking down on them them so hard, it was not funny.
Fun video. I also don't lust after a C8 somehow. I don't need to go faster. I do agree that a C8 makes a better daily, but a 3LZ C6 with some interior upgrades and seats (Caravaggio in my case) is a nice place to be and experience a smooth back road or track day. One thing I wouldn't mind though is front end lift.
I do get that the C8 is a logical evolution and hits home with a broader customer base. But it's not a car that I'd turn back to stare at somehow

The biggest issue with the C8 is the all but eliminated any DIY work. The complexity, rear engine, new DCT trans, has all but removed the DIY the former Corvettes had. The DCT transmission is around $25,000 plus labor to replace. Nobody in the aftermarket is touching them and they have to be bought directly through GM/Tremec. You can't even do a fluid change without access to GM's tech computers to operate solenoids in the transmission during a fluid change.
Most speed shops won't work on C8's due to the amount of labor & complexity required to access the engine and is cost prohibitive compared to the C5-C7.
No doubt, the C8 is the fastest stock Corvette GM ever made and the interior is the best looking. Per Hagerty, the used C8 is depreciating faster than the used C7's did. The cost of upkeep on the used C8 will be astronomically higher than any other Corvette ever made. If you can own a new C8 and unload it before the cars warranty comes up, that is the way to do it. C8's will become like BMW's. Own new and unload once warranty expires as it will become a costly car to keep used.
GM looks differently at the market then the users/buyers here.
But i think that has always be the way, since they need to build and sell them.
Its not what u plan on a Mondaymorning with some coffee.
If the bussiness case will work, well time will tell.
Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, they all made their mistakes and have models not wanted by the fans.
Perhaps the C8 will end like that too.
Think at most model changes in Corvette history there where alot of negative feelings about the new model.
And later on it was adapted by alot.
