Just had a couple Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's purchased, mounted, balanced, etc. at my local Discount Tire....been doing business with them for decades with all my cars. Great experience as always with mounting, balancing, etc. I don't take the Vette there, just the wheels/tires, and put them on at home.
Here's the problem. The tires have a date code of 3222 !! Looks like August of 2022 to me...a little over 3 year old "new" tires. I know I should have done more due diligence but I would have thought the pros at DT should be aware of some tires (especially special ones not frequently sold) having been in the warehouse for years at a time.
Gonna talk to DT and get a little more info, voice my displeasure, and maybe go up the ladder if need be (which I have no problem doing). The industry talks about replacing at 6 years, definitely no more than 10 years, so my new tires have lost anywhere from 30-50% of their life when I left the store!
Just had a similar thing happen. Put new Michelins on my 2011 GS and tires are dated mid 2024. Not as old as your situation so I let it slide.
In your case I would definitely inquire about it.
I'd be asking them to replace with current date code tires. We pay premium prices so we should get fresh product. I checked before leaving the shop when I recently replaced mine. Two were six months old, the other two were two months.
Drive it like you stole it and it won't be a problem. But yeah, that's awfully old for new tires and you would think a big chain like that would move them pretty quickly so would have relatively fresh stock.
If you plan to wear them out with use, I wouldn't worry about it. But if you're gonna put like 1-2k miles a year or less on it, and the tires will age out before you wear them down, go to DT and tell them they're 22s and I'm sure they'll swap them out for free, as long as you're nice.
Yes, I would not be happy . Discount Tire here has been great with my cars and tire needs, particularly on my hobby cars. I imagine they should make it right if you talk to them. I will probably be getting new tires from them next year (my Michelin's on the 2008 will be 10 years old....just 15,000 miles on them. No, I don't wear they out...they age out. Good info for when I do buy....ask specifically for current year tires. Good luck.
I would go back to the store and be nice but also demand either new tires with new date codes (6 months or less). Or ask for a pro-rated discount, at least 30%. Discount Tire has a big *** sign in most of their stores about tire age.

I know people love DT and I'm sure they are great on most cases. I've bought my tires online at the big place. I bought a set of tires that were current and still sold but they were discontinued because of older date code. They were selling as clearance to rotate stock.
Based on signage at their location, I would settle for nothing less a 50% refund.
I just called DT and ordered a set of Pilots for my 08 coupe. I requested that the DC be mid-2024 at the oldest or I would not buy them. I told them I would check DC before installation. I wasn't rude, but firm. The guy I spoke to was easy to work with. His answer, I don't blame you I'll pull the DCs and call you as soon as they arrive. If they are not acceptable I'll call Michelin and order 4 new tires. So they will work with you upfront. Not sure about after the fact.
They have sold me 3 year old tires before. I noticed it too late so I no longer assume any of them will sell you new. They argue that stored in their climate controlled warehouse is not the same as stored in your garage mounted. While there is some truth to that it's still a BS answer. You sell me 3 yr old tires then I expect a pro-rated discount. Just like you do to me for age/wear on replacing tires.
BTW, I just found out that Tire Rack and Discount Tire are now "family" as they put it. So don't expect any difference with Tire Rack now.

Watch out for buying wheels there. I bought Voxx that were on special price for my vette. Find out they are discountinue. Then few weeks go buy no calls. I call and ask what is up? Thet told me the rear 19x10 are out of stock and three months to get them. Found out they own Tire rack now. So we looked what would fit my car and wa in stock by what tire rack said and order those. Now two weeks later still no wheels.
I am only switching out due to the chrome peeling. I keep getting a leak on my rear tire and they told me the chome is peeling causing the leak.
Seems to be a bigger issue with caddys

What say you, my Vette Forum gurus ????
I would have spec'd tire dates of < 6 months, before making my purchase. Then again, I drive my car. Some owners don't drive their cars, so it matters little, how old the tires are.
I know a guy with a 3-wheeled vehicle from the 1890's. It STILL has the original Michelins on it. He'll start it and ride it around the parking lot (slowly) at shows. Tires DO have some sidewall cracking, but not as bad as you might think, for 135 year old tires... but they're hard as rocks!
Tires with a date code of "3222" are not a problem, UNLESS you are on a road course pushing and the tires have been heat-cycled numerous times. THEN, you're right, those tires are only good for the burn-out box.

It matters more to people who don't drive much because they will age out before they will wear out. Corvettes need tires that are good for more than car show parking lots.
If you don't even give the local branch a chance to make it right first then I think that's an overreach personally.
You're not wrong. The low paid tire tech at the local branch probably didn't check the date.
The management will probably be helpful in resolving the issue.
