I am looking at buying a 2006 C6 Corvette Base and have a question on the specific car I am looking at.
Below is a picture of the engine bay. My question is regarding what I will call the frame/inner fender (what coolant reservoir is mounted to), it appears to be gray in color. Is this normal or does this indicate some type of damage occurred? Not sure about the passenger side as the pictures I have show it in the shade and it is hard to tell the color of it. Should both sides be the same color?Have not looked at the car in person yet, but it has a clean carfax with no accidents reported.
Normal. The Corvette has plastic panels mounted onto it for a body. It isn't like a regular car where the engine bay is part of the body and painted in one go.
Just my .02 on it: I’d be suspicious if both sides didn’t match. Here’s a pic of an LS2 bay showing the passenger side panel, and it looks like the same colour. And just an observation: if that pic was taken with a cold engine, the overflow tank looks pretty overfilled. If that’s the case, maybe they’re compensating for a slow leak. If you’re interested in buying the car, maybe have a pressure test done on the cooling system prior to signing off. Could be just the T fitting in one of the hoses, or something quite a bit more expensive to fix.
