Default C6 corvette

When I purchased my C6 used, I only got one key fob and one key. I purchased a couple of fobs online they are cheap 15 bucks. I know how to program them. The thing is I need the actual key. We tried to make a key based off the original key that I got with the car and found out that that was a copy and several locksmiths were not successful. They said because that key was already a copy it could not work. We also tried to make a key using the Saturn blank that was not successful so if I went to a General Motors dealership, I just wanted to purchase a key. Is that possible and how much would it cost? I don’t need the fob. I just need the key

Yes, you just need the VIN number and the dealer can cut you a key. In addition to the physical OEM type key you can get B106 blank at the locksmith cut to fit also.

Does the original key, which you say you got with the car, unlock the hatch and glove box?

OP, there's a coupla ways you can go with this.

1. Go to dealer with VIN, or

2. Take the car lock to a locksmith, that knows how to create a key, or

3. Have a dealer remove the lock cyl and install a new cyl that's keyed.

I'd try #2 first, then #1.

Best option is go to a chevy dealer. with registration for proof of ownership and the vin. Tell them you need the key code.. They will charge you about 20 -30 bucks for this code. Once they give it to you go to a locksmith and tell them that
you need a key cut and you have the code. That is the easiest and probably cheapest option. Had to do this not long ago to my daughters car.

I bought a key blank on line and my local dealership cut the key for free. I needed to bring in my title so they knew it was my car.

Thread title question, Brickmaster.

"C6 corvette" OR "Question about 2nd FOB and key"

Which one is better for the hundreds of other members who will come upon your thread and decide whether to read it or not?
