Default New hatch struts closing concerns

The new struts open with a vengeance but closing takes force to lower and lock. This is for an ‘11 GS. I can’t remember if this was the way it was when I bought it 15 years ago. Anyone have fix or do I just wait for it to age into a faster close?

Are you sure the new struts aren't too strong? You should be able to drop the hatch from being opened a bit (say a foot or so gap) and gravity should take it closed, or close enough where the pulldown mechanism finishes closing it.

While you could drop the hatch from a foot above, I'd suggest you don't do that. There's a pull down that closes the latch if you lower it down so rests on the top of the latch, and then push down a bit. Otherwise, you risk breaking the latch mechanism.

Is it also possible that dropping or slamming the rear hatch can break the glass?

This what I’m doing now, prefer the former as it was not coming down fast enough to break anything, that is until it got too weak and came down on my head. That’s when I replaced the struts!

I use nothing but the OEM struts that came new with the car, aftermarket struts may or may not have the proper resistance to work properly

Do you still have the old struts? One old and one new on the hatch can decrease the lifting pressure..

I tossed the old when I did replacement. I’ll try a little soap.

You must not have read the comment I was replying to because I wasn't even talking about the struts.
