Ive seen it posted a lot of times, E85 is a waste on NA cars. Wellllllll, I did it anyway. Picked up .25 in the 1/4 mile not other changes. Best pass on gas last year was 12.03. With winter blend E, I went 11.78. Only change was I pulled timing so it would hook. YMMV.
I went e85 and tuned my vve and maf after switching. I am definitely able to run more timing then stock and feel decent gains especially part throttle in the lower rpms. Many people say it is a waste but on an LS2 specifically with the higher compression it definitely helps especially with knock retard.
So far I only have about 400 miles on it with the E but its $1.20 cheaper than 93 and its not using that much more. The octane makes it a total win for me.
The E85 is cheaper at the pump but you lose roughly 20- 30% fuel mileage so other than a performance boost, there are no cost savings
Based on yesterdays drive I am using about 20% more. 250 miles driven, 4 passes down the track and 12.5 gallons used. Many similar days used 10.5 gallons of 93.
Mine uses a significant amount more fuel, my avg on the highway @70mph went from 30 mpg down to 19mpg. However HP Tuners is showing im making 427ft lbs torque compared to 400ish on 93.
Agreed, on pump 93 on hot days my car felt like a dog pulling so much timing. After tuning the maf and vve tables on e85 as well as the 6l80 this car really woke up! For being a basically stock A6 car it rips on E… i bet I could knock out some low 12 second passes with just a cat delete, muffler delete and some drop in K&N’s at this point. I dont know about you guys but the power in the low-mid range is where you can really feel the difference.
