Looking for data on the correct BSFC numbers for an LS3 at WOT.

Mine comes in at .47 lbs / hr / hp. That equates to 28.1 gallons per hour.

What is your experience? Is .47 a good number?

So it appears that BSFC is beyond most everyone’s knowledge level?

It’s common term, and a means of tuning engines.

Just want to know what is ideal for an LS3. Mine is .47.

Whats your AFR at 4450?

I assume you are asking about BSFC at 4450 rpm?

You might be able to improve it with AFR and spark optimisation, but good luck doing that across the whole engine load range, you would need a realtime ECU and load bearing hub or engine dyno.

Depending on compression, ring sizes, head design, exhaust, oil weight, windage, crankcase vaccum, accessory load etc, etc you might be able to get it down to 0.40

TLDR; Check what the afr is at WOT, if its richer than say 13:1 you will be probably moving away from peak BSFC, you will get more power richer most likely, but BSFC will suffer.

Again, best way to optimise fueling is on load bearing dyno with realtime ECU. You want LBT (Lean best torque) for fuel savings, but richer for heat management.

All tuning was done on a Dyno at Hutter Performance, in Chardon, Ohio. They are the LS3 experts, and have a great reputation in the racing community. Dale Earnhardt Jr. had them do his engine work.
The engine has a custom cam which was designed for best power from 3000 - 4500 rpm. This LS3 is in an off road vehicle. My concern was is it running rich enough at WOT to prevent damage to the piston crowns at .47 pounds of fuel per hour per horsepower? That equals over 28 gallons / hour.

I don't know what the actual AFR is.
