Variable Displacement
Besides, it's sweet when non-car people give me crap about driving a gas-guzzler only to discover I get better mileage than they do with their minivan.

problems after 1 or 2 years of use. To convince me that the technology is
sound in the long run I would like a warranty on it for more than the 3 yrs/36K miles.
But I guess everyone has their preferences, I'm a city guy and hardly ever get onto the freeway so I prefer to have a nice rumble. Might be a different story if I drove the freeway a lot.
By the way, I get 10MPG on the '58 (283ci). My driving habits probably have a little bit to do with that though. :blueangel: :chevy She gets WOT every chance I get... because I love the sound... and whiplash.
When it comes on a Vette, it will be PoD for Power On Demand
Just kidding. Neither of the two engines being currently considered for the Vette have DoD.
I look back to days of yore when working on engines was simple and more driveway friendly (now only this way in hot rods and pre-70's). However, DOD is just another step in development, just like that 405Hp LS6 compared to a '67 427. Try running that LS6 without an ECM - technology. The 427 didn't need no stinkin' ECM, but the Z06 is faster. Seriously, thanks to Hypertech and others, most of us have found the ECM as a power resourse, not a handicap.
At some point in the future, there will be a place on this forum where we share our successes in wringing out DOD for hidden HP.
