Default 42V auto electrical system article

It doesn't say much about which manufacturers, etc., but it does say "Beginning in 2004, the U.S. auto industry will begin its move from the 12-volt battery electrical systems toward a 42-volt standard..."

Dave Hill says while the General is working on a 42 volt system, it's not under consideration at this time for the Vette.

I read an article in a car rag about a year ago that stated the challenges for this move to 42 v are much greater than originally anticipated and the cost / value is being questioned. They made it sound as if the move is not certain at all.

It's costly to change now, because everything uses 12v. GM, like everyone else, will have to change eventually, no matter what kind of money figure they're looking in the eyes. Either that, or they could stay behind the curve, and everyone can laugh when no one's buying their product, and GM is going bankrupt. They'll screw themselves by not wanting to spend the money now to change over.

The article I read was not about GM, in particular. It questioned if the industry would ever really make the move to 42. It was probably out of date, or out of touch.
