Just out of curiousity... why can't chevrolet bring back some good 'ol styling cues when it comes to hoods. I think a retro version of the 68-72 big block hood would look killer on the new corvette....or the stinger hoods on the 1967. I guess I'm just tired of seeing flat hoods that suggest there is nothing lively under them. They should have atleast done this for the z06 since its kinda sorta the big block of C5's. In my opinion I get a case of the  when I look at the C5 hood. Chevy needs to bring back some of the innovation that made the midyears and sharks so unique.... come on GM get creative! - mark
Funny you should mention that :D ....Wish I could say I owned a big block car too but my fathers does ( it's a 69 L36 vert ) I drive a red 72 vert but she isn't a 427 :cry I plan on getting a LT-1 hood for her with the white stripping heres some pics of the 69 ( //www.freewebs.com/markwitha72shark/myl36corvettepage.htm)
Today's Corvette should look like it was built today.
Those big hoods were built out of necessity, and even then they weren't pretty, except in an excessive-function hotrodder's sense.
I've yet to see an aftermarket C5 hood that looks as good as the stock piece.

I agree that most the aftermarket C5 hoods aren't anything special. But, I haven't seen any C5 hoods that look like the Stinger, nor the L-88. The L-88 was obviously something that ppl found attractive, b/c it was adapted to many, many different vehicles in the aftermarket (Camaros, trucks, etc.). I think an L-88-like C5 hood would look awesome. The stinger isn't one of my favorites, but the heritage tip-of-the-hat would be cool.
Ever seen the hood they put on the Lingenfelter Corvette? Or the Mallet Corvette? If you ask me they have the stock hood beat two fold and make the car look mighty tuff. But I definately think GM should allow buyers to get a little more options to play with when buying a corvette. On a different note not all big block hoods were used out of necessity for ex. the 68-72 hoods fit both small blocks (like the LT1) and big blocks, they were for cosmetics and boy did they breathe some life into that car. I feel they could very much do the same for the vette today. Those hoods have ALOT of appeal.... look at all the aftermarket ones you see on midyears ! as well as C3's. I just feel that not every vette should look the same (with exceptoin of minor changes on the z06) I saw so many plane jane C5's in bowling green. It got to the point to where if you saw one you've seen em all  can't believe I said that
Those killer hoods might have looked great on that vintage Vette, but save them for the new Mustangs now!!! I like smooth hoods (maybe with a little more bulge than the stock C5) on the new Corvette. RETRO NO
Yep. Seen 'em. They disturb the natural lines of the car. I just don't think C5's nose and fenders lend themselves to bulges or vents. Maybe it's a weakness of C5's design, or maybe it's the strength of a design so well-integrated that an altered part ruins the whole. I dunno.
Maybe C6 will be different. I know what I've seen of C6's hood is (I hope by design) too much like a base 82 Firebird.

The cowl induction on that car looks pretty sweet... don't believe I've seen one like that  I think a hood like that of the BB C3's would look best on the C5's . Or any sports car really. A retro version of that hood would kinda resemble that of the 05 mustang they had in motor trend ( the two front scoops ) Anyways thats a sweet vette :auto:
