The C6 will be sporting a revamped 5.7L 425HP OHV V-8 with variable valve timing will be coupled to a rear-mounted six speed manual or a six speed auto gearbox. Coupe will come first with removable roof panel then convertible follows. Of course, the Z06 still maintaining its 500HP or close to it maybe somewhere from 475-500HP 6.0L V-8.

Good lord, not again! The article is wrong. The base C6 will have the 6.0 liter LS2 with over 400 HP, while the Z06 variant will have the LS7 6.4 liter 500 HP engine.
Motor Trend is just plain wrong. GM mistakenly put up a list of upcoming engines on their website, somewhere buried deep a while back. It was found and put up immediately, and quickly, GM took the file off of their site. They contacted the person who got a hold of it, personally, and told him not to show the pictures to anyone else, or they'd file a lawsuit.
The list of motors included an LS2 that was 6.0L and an LS7 which was listed as 6.4L.
So who do you believe, a magazine that feeds on publicity, looking for anything to publish the minute they hear about it, or some inside info from real sources?
EDIT: I shouldn't totally knock Motor Trend. They did get the V8 and OHV part correct.
The engine part is wrong unless GM has been hiding the truth with deception all this time.
The six Speed auto trans is interesting though. Now that VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) has a 6 speed Titronic in the Porsche Cayane with a 450HP, 427Torque motor, we know it can be done. And we all know how Dave Hill loves VAG!
EDIT: I shouldn't totally knock Motor Trend. They did get the V8 and OHV part correct.
Yes you should. We also know that GM announced a 6 speed for the 2005 not model year but calendar year. Dave has also said 4 speed automatic. It seems that all the sweet stuff will appear in the second year of C6 sales...2006 model year.
:chevy
Information at this time is still blochy. Alot of rumors spread and so forth. So it is tough to know what is a straight answer. I want to see a spy pic in the rain or fog or like night. Because then the headlights would have to be on. :D
Consider that the lead time on a monthly magazine is minimum of about two weeks for the "news" section and articles are three to four weeks lead time.
By the time the mag is printed, mailed and in your mailbox, the information is nearly a month old. Weeklies like Autoweek have more current information, and internet mags like The Car Connection are even more current.
Also, we get reports from individuals who attended Corvette events where Dave Hill and other Corvette team folks make comments, which are usually posted here, and other tidbits like a sheet listing engine options including LS2 and LS7 engine codes. (Found on the internet, but quickly removed.)
Put all this together and here's what falls out.
Base engine LS2 6.0L 400-425 HP
Z06.............LS7 6.4L 475-500 HP
You get more current and accurately distilled C6 intelligence on this forum than you get in any magazine, but you have to sift through a lot of garbage to find the jewels.

I know I should knock them, I was being sarcastic.
