Default C6 vs. current Z06

How well do you think the C6 will perform against a current Z06: acceleration, handling, topspeed?

According to my lastest vette mag or SCI mag. the C6 should be 300lbs. lighter than a C5 coupe. That plus an LS2 should out perform current Z06's. Right?

This has been thorughly discussed on another thread. The consensus IMO was that the base C6 will probably be a bit quicker street car than the C5 Z06 and maybe even a higher top speed, but is unlikely to match the track times or slalom speeds.

Put another way (such that this topic doesn't have to be a complete dupe)...

C6 will
- cost less
- have more power
- have a better interior
- look fresh

The performance differences will be small either way.

I've read nothing to back this up recently, but at one time speculation was high that the C6 would be fitted with big Brembos. We do know that the run-flats are lighter, and might stop better. I suppose we should include the possibility that the base C6 might out brake the C5 Z06 - or at least match it.

If the regular C6 makes the current Z06 obsolete, then you can expect the market price to equilibriate to a point where it will be very expensive. I do think the objective of the base C6 should be to stay comfortably ahead in acceleration than the '03 Cobra. Not since the 5.0 '87 Stang has Stang performance been so close to the Vettes and never before has Stang been so easily modded to match 38x cid Vettes. Since acceleration has always been a top Vette priority I think we can expect some major improvements here. Other motivations include surprisingly fast EVO8s and STis (e.t. that is, not mph) plus the desire over the years to narrow the gap with the runaway acceleration improvements of the Viper.

As for C6 style vs. the current Z06, I can speculate that it will be a huge jump. Just look at the pics of the prototype '05 Stang, especially the interior. Stangs have always been thought of a working man's style or muscle car. But now it looks like it's going to move upmarket a lot. So there's much motivation I hope to stay ahead of a f-body rival in performance and style.

From what I read, much of the Mustang concept's interior will never make it to production. I believe the sidepipes will also NOT be on the production car.
