I'm sorry, but from the "spy photos" and talking to dealers that actually have seen the C6, that the C6 is nothing more than a redesigned C5. The exhaust, basic shape, and "look" are nothing more than a "tweaked" C5. Yes, there are performance upgrades (6.0 liter and 400+ hp :) :) :) ) and a new interior, but, in my opinion, the new C6 still looks like a "tweaked" C5. Anybody else feel the same or have an opposing opinion?
If you look at all the other "C" changes, they are radically different from the previous model year. My current license plate is "98 C5." If I buy a '05, I'll get license plates that read "05 C5.5."
Also, what's the "buzzz" on transmissions? Will GM FINALLY offer a steptronic for us auto guys?
I wouldn't call them radically different. Every year change you can still tell they are corvettes and I see the same thing happening here.
I don't know...it sounds like it's not changing that much...
From the 1990 model to the 1992 model, a complete new interior, engine, and redesigned front & rear bumpers, rear glass, etc all changed...but it was still a c4...so if they're not changing it that much, what makes it worthy of a c6 designation?
Would you call a '58 a "tweaked" '56? Would you call a '68 a tweaked of a '67 (with a little Mako thrown in?) The C5 is an awesome automobile. Or have you forgotten??? I was currently looking at a Ferrari for my next car.
Based on what I'm reading on this forum, I think I'll wait until the official roll out. :flag
Keith5.........Forgive me for my C1 ignorance. As such, I cannot comment on your '56/'58 comparison. However, a '68 is definitely not a "tweaked" '67. Other than engine options and four taillights, the two cars have nothing in common. (This, of course, is just my opinion.)

My point, exactly. Well put, PaceThis.
I am in no way trying to start a "C6 flame war." Hay, we're all brothers (and sisters) here. Right?
No matter what, we always end up back to square one...nobody (limited few) know exactly the production C6. One thing that is a given fact, you will recognize it as a Corvette. No matter what year you look at, it looks Corvette. No matter what year, it shares parts with other GM cars, no matter what year the Corvette is still a Corvette and usually takes its design cues from what is going on in the sportscar world at that time it was built. Why would the C6 be any different. Agree with previous post on new frame, interior, etc. but it still will look like a Corvette.
As Jinx pointed out there are more differences between the C5 and the C6 than there were differences between the C2 and the C3. This is not speculation, it is based on comments from Hill. So why is there still controversy about the new Gen I.D.? Sour grapes about the end of the C5? Its called progress. Your C5 will run just as strong on January 4 as it did on January 3. It is a great car! The C6 will also be a great car and it earns the right to be called the C6.
From what Hill has said, the C6 will be a major advancement from the C5 for the reasons stated above. The only reason I can think of for any concern being expressed is that the photos we have seen to date are very reminicent of the C5. Is this purely the result of good camo, or will there be a greater similarity between the C5 and C6 than other models? I don't know, and few do at this point in time. What I do know is that if the C6 lives up to even most of the hype concerning improved performance and interior, I will certainly consider buying one. I love the looks of my C5, so why would I suddenly sour on a C6 just because it looked "too much" like a C5?
Who gives a crap? The C5 looks like a tweaked C4 and the C3 looks like a tweaked C2. In fact, the C2 was the only Corvette that looked like nothing else before it.

Yeah....but you know, this 'C' designation didn't come around until they were designing the "next generation" and they called it a C5. So.....while they were doing the changes from the 90 thru 92 ....they didn't know they were maintaining a "C4"! ( sort of weird....like time travel concepts )..........they were just making constant improvements to the Corvette. Perhaps we ought to go back to the old "new car thing" and just recognize that the 2005 Corvette is going to have a lot of changes over the 2004........and it's about time since there have not been many changes from 1997 to 2003. Then we skip all the debate about when is a C6 really a C6, etc. :seeya
C3 had a new body and new interior, but used the same frame and suspension. It was a reskin, not a redesign.
C6 has a new body, a new interior, a new engine, and a new frame. They're all different parts. It is more different from C5 than C3 is from C2.
This C5.5 talk is based on nothing more than low-res photographs of camouflaged vehicles. It's absurd.
.Jinx
I think Jinx is right on here. If the rumors are true (even half true), the C6 will be more different than the C5 than the C3 was to the C2. By 1982, the C3 frame and suspension was 20 years old! The wait will soon be over...

How would you know or even have an opinion about that? You haven't even seen the car yet. You are passing judgment based on someone else's eye's? Until you see the car in person, you can't say anything positive or negative about it. Wars start this way pal....he said she said ...etc... :smash: :smash: :smash:
