Default C6 INFORMATION

Just a little information that I thought I would share. May or may not be news to many on this forum and not looking to debate the pros and cons or otherwise criticize GM. But, a friend that just returned from Vegas had this to say about the C6(my friend is a serious vette enthusiast). The most awesome vette ever. 6-8 inches shorter but with a longer wheel base. Stationary wrap around headlights, larger cove and rear deck and tail lights higher than C5. Engineer was asked about the LS2 horsepower and told more than any previous production vette (duh!). When asked if more than 435hp engineer said yes. Friend left with the impression that the C6 LS2 would have at least 450 hp. Concluded by saying what he saw was the BEST LOOKING VETTE EVER!!!!! :D :D

Thanks.

Hope we all feel the same way as your friend when we see it (finally!). 450hp sounds "pie-in-the-sky" to me , but I sincerely hope it's true.

Again, thanks for sharing.

Wrap around headlights?

I don't like the sound of that.

I think he means headlights that cut through the fender (like Jujubees) and are not placed inside the apex of the fenders like the European mag cover. Please note that all of the headlight descriptions that I have heard add up to something rather close to this 360 Modena IMO:

The vette's may be a bit more verticle to provide a shorter overhang. We have heard ...
1. looks like a ferrari
2. lens is clear and the bulbs are very visable
3. the body color is under the lens
4. the light wraps around, or cuts thru the fender.

I have inquired about pics....he said it was pretty much impossible to take pictures not to mention the ramifications if caught. Remember, these were dealers at a private showing. Maybe someone was daring enough to take some. Time will tell.

That would make things interesting to say the least if it happens.

If the base C6 gets 450 hp, then I will turn a blind eye to the 4-speed-only automatic. :D

I'm guessing that at one point where engines become very powerful, the need for more gears is less important. How many gears does a top-fuel dragster have ?

whatever it is its going to create a new benchmark for everyone to live up to.

btw Top fuellers do not have gears, they run multiple (7-12? not sure) clutches that engage as the car goes faster. This also solves a traction problem as putting full power down from a stop would just result in smoke.

Wow thats 450HP thats Naturally Aspirated. I think they should follow Fords lead and supercharge the Z06. 600HP should be doable...lol ...this will never happen.

I don't like the sound of that.

I don't either. The C6 will loose it's distinctive look from the front... and will now blend in with all the other cars.

BTW, I expect the original posters to be enthused. If that was the tone of the group surrounding him... it will effect him as well. Plus; he's a part of the Chevrolet family. Was his enthusiasm genuine, or coerced (sp)?

I highly doubt they would make the Corvette look like "all the other cars". As for the built in headlights, it may not be as clean of a look but at least we'll finally have some good high powered lights. You overun the current ones at 30mph. Depending on the arrangment of the lights they may actually look cool.
