I don't think a butt-ugly Malibu, a Corvette, and a bunch of carryovers are going to spur a rush to dealers.
Oh, right, the Monte and Impala finally got the supercharged motor they should have had when they debuted four years ago. Back then 240hp was a big deal, now it's too little, too late.
GM really needs to hold back on the press releases until they have the product to back it up.
If you continue down the article...you will see a LOTUS camless engine and mention of 42V systems again. They are coming...It is just a matter of when and where they are phased in first. :steering:
"Pushrods for economical power
The V16 engine of Cadillac's Sixteen concept car previews future
technology from General Motors that could see production in upcoming
vehicles such as the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette.
I hope they're not saying that the LS2 is from the 2V
family of GenIV engines.
Re: Chevrolet wants to increase sales? (need-for-speed)
Jinx Jinx, them sour grapes over the open air LS7 are causing too many negative waves !
Those are not Jinx sour grapes, those are the heads of marketing and product people who keep making empty promises. Jinx is dead on about the Impala and Monte. This is NOT the Chevy that I loved when I was growing up. If one goes into the showroom to check out the vette and realizes it is beyond his reach, what Chevy does he settle for? ... a Monte SS with the new, same engine that my grandmother's 9 year old Buick Regal has? ... an Impala SS that is another badge and charge, no added value package with the same engine. ...or maybe a 4,750 lb truck with a beautiful design and 290HP. Other than our beloved shining star (Corvette), these are truly dark days for Chevy and I see no dawn breaking.
Very good article. It was an interesting article about the brakes then I continued to read and it got even better with the 6.3 L motor information. Very informative to say the least. Thanks for posting it.
And prehaps 500 HP instead of the 450 we are all hoping for !
Obviously the GEN IV power potential is substantial. Even if we "only" see 405HP in the base vette. there can be no doubt that significantly more power is attainable in this engine!! Great news - assuming that this IS the C6 powerplant!!
Duke, slightly different model based on comments by Hill and a belief that GM will do the least expensive thing possible to get the desired results.
The development model for new technology seems to be to first do a technical feasibility model with little consideration for expense, get a patent and then to engineer like crazy to come as close as possible to the results with the least expensive solution.
The three valve head keeps appearing in the "futures" briefings by PowerTrain Engineering. After reading the benefits in the head redesign, I'm thinking the trucks will get the three valves but in a lower rpm application.
For the Vette:
LS2 6lt, 1 cam with phasing, 2 valve heads that look like the V-16, lots of Ti bits and pieces in valve train. 400 + hp
LS7 6.4lt, 1 cam with phasing, 3 valve heads, lots of Ti bits and pieces in valve train, and the Ti con rods. 500 + hp
I believe that while the LS2 has come very close to the end of its development cycle for initial production, espically if we believe that the Canadian plant has done a run of some magnitude for testing, the LS7 has a ways to go yet. If they can machine a 2 cam block on the same line as a 1 cam block that will make the 2 cam a lot more interesting. The wildest of all is to completely skip the 2 cam engine and go directly to the camless engine in a hydro or electro version.

Longtimer, I was just making a joke. That is all. Like another thread where everyone was teasing Jinx when he said "you suck" over and over about the LS7. Joking. Those that know me know that I hate FWD cars. I own 5 cars and NONE of them are FWD. I HATE the bastardization of traditional model names that has occured such as Monte Carlo, Impala, Gran Prix, Cougar, and all the Cadillacs. And you reasoning about not being able to afford a vette was me up until 3 years ago. That why I've always owned Camaros. Don't get me started about the demise of the F-Body.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
