Everyone keeps talking about how much HP and/or weight the C6 may or may not have and once in a while the expections of its torque get discussed too. 1/4 mile times and 0-60 times might come up once in a while too. What I have yet to see though, are discussions about what we'd like to see in terms of braking distances and times, slalom speed and lateral G's. How about drag coefficeints?
Everyone wants to call the corvette a sports car ( I believe that it truly is) but most people seem to end up talking about it in terms that make it sound like nothing more than a muscle car. I'd like to hear what everyone would like to see in terms of other performance (realistic expectations of course).
Certainly I'd love to see a Top speed above 180 MPH, a 0-60 time around 4.0 and a 1/4 mile time around 12.0 or less.
However, I'd also really like to see a Slalom speed above 70 MPH, a lateral acceleration of 1g or higher, a 60-0 braking distance around 110 feet or less and a coefficeint of Drag around .25.
That's what I'd like to see. What does anyone think that we might reasonably expect though?
I hope to see 60-0 stopping distance considerably under 110ft. 100 to 105 would be prefered. Anything else will leave the Vette playing second fiddle to the Vipper in a performace catagory in which it used to lead.
I believe that the technology will easily give you most of those numbers.
However, my big wish for the C6 is "shock and awe" looks.
I was a teenager when the '68 Stingray debuted.
THAT WAS AN AWESOME TIME. I would like to relive that moment when
I first saw one. DAMN - I cant forget it! It was incredible!
Thank You Larry Shinoda! Are you listening Mr. Hill?
Dave Hill - this is your time. It is up to you to bring us a "Shock and Awe" 'Vette. WE DONT WANT NO STINKING HO-HUM REVISION!
:chevy
P.S. I've put off buying a 360 or 355 until I see the Jan. debut..
Those numbers all seem reasonable....except looking at them all together, with the upgraded wheels, interior, options, and engines, it sounds expensive. We'll see. I think the lateral will be between .97 and .99
Cd of 0.22 isn't realistically achievable considering all other design constraints, and laminar flow technologies aren't going to provide that much of reduction in this case.
I doubt it will crack the 1.0g mark since it's going to have runflats, but .95 is probably realistic.
The Viper has run-flats and it pulls over 1.0 g. The run-flat technology has come a long way. I believe I read in one post that this was the case. That the new runflats will be more geared to performance, they won't have as much range, but they will be as good as regular tires.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
