Does anyone think due to lutz commenting on eurospec for u.s. that they will integrate the rear fog lights or yellow turn signals into the round taillights al-la diablo? Just a thought
American-spec 'vettes do not meet Euro-spec standards.
Euro-spec 'vettes meet American-spec standards.
That is why it makes more sense to make them all Euro-spec.
I hope we get amber turn signals on the back. I hope we don't get rear mounted fog lights, though. Amber turn signals on the fenders are fine if they're integrated well. Xenon low and high beam HID headlights are a must IMO.
I would really like to see tail lights a-la-Ferrari F40.
All C6 cars should be getting amber directionals. The rear fog lamps will be made part of the design for Euro spec cars to get away from that awful tacked-on look that we have with the C5. I doubt if that rear will be standard on US spec cars.

Amber = UGGGGLLLLYYYY. A separate tail light will be needed due to the fog light requirements anyway. Why ugly up the rear with extra colored lights and lenses? When Camaro made that change (from all red to red & amber) it ruined the look of the rear. Vette should come with two red lenses and if anyone wants to euro-ize their vette, I'm sure Mid America, et al, will have kits available -right along side of the louvered hatch shades.

And for me, the use of amber connotes functionality. Just like a fine piece of equipment, its the function that gives it the beauty. The Camaro tailights weren't ugly because of the amber. They were ugly because they had no style. Not even the all red ones. They were bland. They should have been round, IMO. The rear of the Lambo reeks of function. This is a machine with a serious purpose not just to be pretty. The F40 is another good example of a car being "beautiful" because of the "purposefulness" of its form. Even tho it may not integrate seamlessly into the whole, each piece is the best for the function it performs.
question for the Euro members then. if the taillights are LED then does your car still have to have the reverse red foglight? asking because the led seem so much brighter. one of the reasons I brought this stuff up is for the photochoppers as I had seen a lot of red taillights but am now seeing some amber in a couple
yes, You need one RED, bright as hell, light in the back if you register your car in germany, and most other European countries...
The newest Oldsmobile Aurora comes to mind. It's got those two brightly-colored red lights on the rear fascia that are lit all of the time (sort of like DRLs).
I think Corvette should stick with red lenses. It's an American tradition and works well with its image. Heck if I were to buy a Euro-spec car (down here in New Zealand) I'd get rid of those fog lights and change the lenses to red anyway
I have a 1994 Lexus SC-400, and it has an ugly add on fog light on the year. When I registered my 1991 ZR-1 here in Germany, they said I would need to change the tail lights to include the amber lights, as well as adding the fog light under the bumper. I said I really did not want the fog, so the dealer investigated, and since the car was already registered in Belgium without the fog, they let mine go through without the fog :)
A lot of the cars here now come with only one backup light, and they use the other backup light position as the fog light. This is a far better approach, as it looks more integrated. I read in a magazine that the BMW Z8 has 2 red lights on the back, and when you put it in reverse, one of them turned white. I have not verified this, but if true it certainly is a good approach.
The current C5 has 2 large red lights added to the rear bumper. I think this detracts from the style somewhat.
Hopefully the C6 will integrate the lights nicely into the design.
I've seen amber turn signals integrated into the rear lights in such a while to minimize their appearance. For example, our Acura TL Type S has amber turn signals - but they are clear until they flash.
EDIT: Maybe not perfectly clear, but close. Much, much better looking than the 2000 and earlier TLs.
Just presenting another possibility, if they do decide to incorporate amber lights into U.S. Vettes....

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Pure functionality, IMO, is seldom beautiful. There are many who like the functional look of 18 wheelers. Like you, they are also entitled to their beholding. I sincerely hope the C6 has RED LED tail lights.

The Aurora rear fogs are controlled by the fog light switch. The front and rear fogs come on together but they aren't on all of the time like drl's.
I would be willing to bet that of all of the Auroras sold 90% of the buyers don't even know they have rear fog lights. Combine that with the fact that a lot of drivers run their front fog lights at night when there isn't a trace of fog and they appear to everone behind them like two stuck brake lights.
It's a good idea safety wise if used correctly but a nusiance if not.
