Default C5 and C6 frames side by side

I made this pic so those who were wondering about the shape and rake of the C6 frame vs. the C5 frame would have something to go on.

Keep in mind that the C5 shot was taken from a slightly different angle which makes the windshield look a little more rounded.

If you use a photo editor to make on of the images a separate layer and then make that layer have 44% transparency, you can move it over the other one and see that the side view mirrors are the same and the rake of the windshield frame is the same.

Edit: Sizing to get the two pics to have the same scale was done by measuring the distance in pixels between the two cars' wheels. The approximate 1" of wheelbase difference isn't enough to matter.

Edit again: Can a moderator please add the word "windshield" to the thread title? I accidentally made it misleading.

Very interesting. It's disappointing to notice that the A pillars are not as slender looking from the outside as they are on the C5. Of course some of that could be camo, but in general it doesn't look as sleek as the C5's pillar. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Good work Scissors. You have done a lot of editing to show this.
y thought is that the fender rake on the c-6(being higher like the c-3) misleads the windshield angle. Thanks for sharing.

Good job Scissors. I can hear the skeptics now: "See, it really is a C5 with fake body panels"

Look carefully. The C5 pic has more glare so you don't see the INTERIOR of the A pillar as clearly as the C6. Only difference I see is the size of the black triangle at the forward base of the window. Whata ya think?

They have the same windshield frame... so wouldn't they have to have the same rake?

Correct, but certain individuals here in the C6 section keep saying that I don't know what I'm talking about and that the C6 will have a more upright rake. Those same individuals also said that the XLR has a more upright rake. Well I just compared these to the XLR and, no, the XLR's rake is also the same.

It's also interesting to note where the top of the door cut line intersects the bottom of the A pillar.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Thanks for bringing it up, as I forgot to.

I wonder if the cut line difference means that the fender panel is just extended back further, or perhaps the door is actually shorter--a good thing in tight parking spaces.

No, you didn't. You took a pic of the "C6 spy car" which is on a C5 frame. The windshields look identical, because they are.

As I stated before, if you take a digital camera, go to a Cadillac dealership, and shoot a real XLR windshield from the same angle and resize it to your C5 pics, you will see it is totally different: shorter rake, and straighter glass.

In fact, you won't even have to bother resizing. Just park your Vette next to the XLR and shoot both cars in profile. The difference will be totally obvious.

I took the XLR picture from Cadillac's web site and compared it to the C5 and C6 picture.

The black car is a C6 frame. Get over it.

Already did at CI-IV and they were the same rake. Different shape, but the same rake.

Here ya go. Real XLR windshields. Look anything like your pics? Nope.

You say you took side-by-side pics of the XLR and C5. Why don't you use those instead in your comparison. That would be more convincing than taking pics of C5 windshields side by side and saying the're the same. :jester

And another nice profile shot.

Totally different pillar and glass. Totally different rake and length. Love it or hate it, THAT's the C6's windshield. I think it's pretty nice myself.

Of course not, they're taken with a wide-angle lense and from a different angle than my pics. Did you even look at them before you posted them?

1.) I never claimed the glass was the same. In fact, above, I specifically stated that the shape was different.

2.) Follow my directions above to compare instead of just eyeballing it; but first get a better pic that is from the same elevation, a similar angle, and isn't fisheyed.
