Default Thought on Door "Handle"

It just occured to me that maybe the door will not have the electric release like the Cadillac does. This, like the hard top may be left out to reduce weight and cost.

The plastic piece on the door side may be door pulls (like the 350Z).

I hope I am wrong, if someone has varified otherwise, let us know.

:iagree: Yup, that's what I thought when I saw them. Maybe it will be an option to have completely keyless entry and ignition.

It could go either way, but maybe the black is just there has a protector? If there were going mechanical, wouldn't the door have a handle, unless it is hidden, how will the people open the door.

The weight involved in the XLR style system cannot be that much, you get to drop all of the mechanical weight+key holes, and only add 2 sensor pads and a RF sensor for the unlock ... cannot be worth more that 2-3lbs ...

this is disappointing :( I was so hoping they'd have the new pull handles (horizonal) that grace the g35, etc. Such a classy attachment and one that I think could have done wonders for the c6, the pull handle on the XLR doesn't do anything for me and neither did the 350z's :(

I mean, I'll still pick one up around 06, but if the money is decent, I may look into modifying the door panels to fit the other handles, I promised myself i wouldn't buy another car without pull handles, they just look too good

The "sub 20" post members are usually GM employees leaving little tidbits that GM wants us to know. Notice how so many of them are from Michigan :yesnod:

The XLR's are not "pull" handles, it's like a pad you touch and the door pops open.

It wouldn't make sense for GM to offer a physical handle option anyway--it would increase cost to them while (in a very minor way) hurting sales.

I happen to think it's a door handle like shape. I think it would make a door handle. One so that you can use your hand to open the door with it. Yeah. :leaving:

Ooh electric! What's the lowdown on how it works, anyone have a link I could follow up on?

I was under the impression they'd be pull handles and that really disappointed me, but if it's a nifty technology, I guess I could forego my love with pull handles to allow a neat gadget to wow my friends lol :)

thanks guys!

Ok, I have a simple question. What happens if your car battery dies? How do you get into the car? I can see myself storing the car for the winter, removing the battery and closing the hood..then thinking to myself "How am I going to get this battery back in if I can't get in the car to open the hood!"

Maybe the car has backup power specifically for this purpose?

The C6 and XLR both have physical keyholes hidden in the body work for opening the door in the event that the battery dies or the electronics fail.

As a Z owner (and a vette owner) I can honestly say that the vertical handles are exceptionally ergonomic and keep the wife from scratching the paint!

From a styling standpoint I'd rather see horizontal on the vette though. They'd be more in line with the style of the new side reflectors.

What they should of done is added a piece of material to cover the hole where your hand slides in. The cheap way would of been spring loaded and you push with you fingers to get to the lip to open the door. The nice way would of been to have a solenoid or something pull the panel back when you approach the car with the keyfob in hand. This way it would minimize the wife from scratching the little piece up. Would of looked clean and no holes for the door entry.

Maybe even simplier would of been a body coor touch pad horizontal on the top of the door with a very slight smooth detent??? That would get a lot of finger prints on the door however I guess.
