Default Panel Behind Seats

With all the talk about weight saving and all on the new C6.I wonder if GM has done anything about that flimsy panel behind the seats in Verts. You know the one that pops or as GM calls it the "Oil Canning Effect". If they haven"t changed it they already have a fix for it as follows. You take a hammer and beat a x in the panel and that stops the "Oil Canning Effect"
Those engineers really have there shat together. Kinda makes me want to go back to school and study engineering. I think without a degree I could come up with something better.
Shame on GM for even suggesting this so called fix
Would you want to do this on your new Vette?

If you are not familiar with the panel let me explain.
There is a metal panel behind the seats on verts. If you push on the carpet directly behind the seats I get a popping sound. Also when you use easy entry /exit it puts your seat all the way back. You can lean slightly against the seat back and hear this pop. By the way my 01 didn't have this problem. Seems they changed the panel from a corrugated one to a flat one. Supposedly to save weight. per Corvette engineering dept. Thats where the problem lies. After speaking with GM thats the solution thay came up with. The Hammer!
Now the question is if you bought a new C6 Vert and it has this same problem, would you take a hammer and fix it? I don"t think so.

Uhhhh...that panel isn't exclusive to 'Verts. All C5s have it and this is the first I've heard of any of them having a popping sound.

Sounds like it would work; I don't see a problem with it. It's not like people pull up the carpet to see if your panels are dented.

I would. But then, I prefer to work on things rather than let the dealership screw it up.

Thats not the point. The point is I here it everytime I get in my car. The hammer is not the solution. I'm sure if 100 people were asked the same question about taking a hammer to fix it they would say no-way. Also If you were looking for your first Vette and you discovered this problem, I doubt that you would say okay no problem. Just take it in the shop and beat a X in the panel. Unless you have more Money than sense.

1. What would you do to fix it?

2. If a hammer is the cheapest, easiest, and best way to fix a problem, only a moron would fix it another way.

3. Why is this even in the C6 section?

Only a MORON would say it's okay I don"t mind.
You just don"t get it do you? A hammer is not the solution.
It's in the C6 section because I asked if the panel has not changed on the C6 would you let GM fix it with a hammer.

I didn't say it would be easy, just a fix.
Ps. when cutting the panel out, lift the carpet out of the way. haha I couldn't resist.

Oh boy, here comes that "moron" word again!!! My my, how adversarial we can be when we are not sitting in the same room. I have a 2002 vert and haven't noticed the oil canning sound. If I did hear it I wouldn't hesitate to use a hammer. Heck, I've fixed many things with a hammer!!! :lolg:

Denali, this is a pretty thin excuse for axe-grinding.

Is it reasonable to expect that ANYONE here would know ANYTHING about such a small construction detail on C6? Come on.

So your C5 has a defect. Sucks to be you. Take it to the dealer, insist they fix it, and move on already.

Maybe when you've BOUGHT a C6 and it also makes this noise you can come back here and complain some more, but until then, post your C5 b1tch-bait somewhere else.

What were you doing there? What C5 problems WON'T get fixed on C6? 9:06 AM 3/19/2003

C5 General Discussion has chronicled many persistent problems or annoyances with C5 which haven't been or couldn't reasonably be addressed in the C5 platform. Which of these do you think will carry over to C6?
My opening list of suspects:

1. Rocking seats. This is one of those little bean-counter details that GM just can't seem to shake.
2. Orange peel. I don't think this is fixable on a mass-production car.
3. Can of marbles. Basic manual transmission design won't change.

One thing I think they will fix is column lock. I bet they go out of their way to choose a completely different design.

Well Gee Jinx wasn"t it you in the C6 General Discussion who was inquiring about Cadillac-If this is really C6, I'll stick with C5 and Candy Machines.
Seems you should , post your C5 b1tch-bait somewhere else.
