GM. John McElroy, influential host of "Autoline Detroit" (http://www.autolinedetroit.tv/) a weekly television program seen on our local PBS affiliate and also on the Speed Channel, reported on his "Automotive Insight" program on WWJ radio this morning that GM has a new, top-secret facility under construction in Wixom, a far western suburb of Detroit. What will happen in this facility? John is reporting that GM will use the facility to create handbuilt engines for GM's future performance cars, much in the same way that AMG does for Mercedes-Benz - with one technician building an entire engine by hand. Candidates for this program? Most likely the 625hp V-8 engine for the upcoming ultra-high-performance version of the next generation C6 Corvette, code-named "Blue Devil." Also, future engines for Cadillac's aggressive new V series program, which will include V-8s and reportedly even V-12s. If this sounds like a GM we're not quite familiar with as enthusiasts, stay tuned - we're predicting more moves like this in the future from the Sleeping Giant - who is now wide awake and running on a couple of pots of high-octane 100% Colombian.
This sounds fantastic. I credit Lutz's influence here. Cad needs this type of resource to be considered truely a world class leader once again. This is another side benefit to Corvette due to the new Cad mission.
I understand that they own quite a bit of land around BG too (future expansion for Super Vette, SUVette, HybridVette and the HeliVette crossover production).
