Default Variable cam phasing???

Unless I missed it, no mention of variable cam phasing in LS2 that was the subject of speculation. (I'm sure if it was there it would have been mentioned.) I'm not suprised as it is of limited value with only one cam. No real new technology in LS2 - just excellent detail engineering to get the most out of the basic pushrod architecture.

Variable cam phasing will have to wait for the twin-cam three-valve-per-cylinder LS7.

It will be interesting to see how GMPT managed to cast a full four-inch bore with cast-in iron liners. Their inability to do it with LS1/6 was why the bore was reduced to 3.90" relative to 4-inch bore CI truck engines.

Prototype 6.4L LS7 bore and stroke of 4.06 x 3.78 reported a couple of years ago could hold, but will probably require integral bores like the C5R block.

The other possibility for LS7 is a longer stroke; 6.4L would be about 3.86".

I agree Duke. I've been reading all the mags I can and no mention. I have the fairly long AWeek article and VVT was NOT mentioned.

I'm not sure I understood the information posted by another member in the SAE papers as I thought the changes to the internal oil passages where for the cam phasing system. It has been printed that the oil passage changes are definately needed, but for another system. The DOD system expected in the trucks....

Since most of the other manufacturers have it or have tried it(cam phasing), I would expect that the General maybe played with it but deemed it unnecessary for the goals set for the new Vette. Who knows, I thought we had an aluminum frame coming too....

I think you will see all of the above on the Z06, which will cost $68-70k. Could be that cost of V V T was significant.
