Hello everybody,

I can assure you that in my eyes it needs to be lowered for looks, the best shifter they come up with will still be crap (I had the factory Hurst option on my TA and it sucked almost as much as the stock C5 shifter) and I like it muscular sounding...then HRE wheels are always nice, stereo ? ummmm

We'll see about the no mods !!

Are you kidding me?

How about a 427 rebuild with ported heads and a big cam.
Can the C6 go 9's naturally aspirated?
THAT is the question.

I know I was only busting. I've put a few bucks into my car that I will never see back as well. I never did wheels and tires (though I was dying to), but now I'm glad I didn't.

I will still lightly mod the C6 though.
It's fun.

Is it known if it will be possible to tie a cd changer into the Nav system? I am hoping so because I too would like the Nav system , but would also like a CD changer.

Keep a performance car like a Vette stock? hehehe not a chance, unless you're a waxer. :D Everytime a new version of a car is released, the manufacturer touts the exhaust as being "freer flowing", well why can't they make it free flowing the previous year? I truly believe that car companies hold back many things about any car, and schedule incremental improvement every year so they can claim "new and improved". Just go aftermarket and you'll beat all the OEM annual improvement. You wrote that the exhaust sounds decent: How do you know what the exhaust sounds like? The cam can be a hotter version than "higher performance". Im just saying that lots of things can be changed, and the C6 as delivered is just a starting point.

Rapid Transit, to answer your question, I heard the C6 in the video at Nurbugring! Sounded good to me, but of course, will have to judge when it gets here.

The point I'm making about modding the C6 is that 1) it has virtually everything I've done to my C5, which means that GM did an excellent job in addressing many of the after-market desires of C5 owners; and 2) that, from what I've observerd, most of the mods people do to their C5 seem to actually detract from its resale value!

That may seem hard to swallow, but that's how it seems to work. Certainly, you cannot expect to recoup anything close to their full cost. So, any mods I do to my new C6 will be minor, and easily reversible - or will cost little enough I can mentally write them off. Especially if I think I may sell/trade in year or two or three for a Z or other C6.

I'm thinking that the C6 may be the first Vette I keep more or less stock.
Let's see: no Blackwing needed since it has a monster air intake; new cast iron header design is lighter and more efficient; exhaust is free-flow and looks and sounds decent; interior looks good (understated in a Euro way) and probably will NOT be improved by decals and stick-on letters (although I'm sure that Vette Essentials will come up with some tasteful ideas for those with the wherewithal); engine has a higher performance cam already installed; Z-51 has brakes, rotors, sways, shocks, springs, coolers, etc.

I mean, really, what's left?

Well, surely the stock exhaust system won't be morally reprehensible enough. So you'll need to put on your own fear-inducing exhaust.

Also, the fact that the engine has more base hp and higher displacement means that 500hp should be cheap to achieve. :D

Don't forget though that the NAV system will now play MP3s, so you could just rip your CDs to MP3 and burn them to one disk and have them all right there.
Yeah I know... But I would still need to feed it the Map-DVD anytime I want to use the navigator, right? I don't like the idea of having to shuffle discs around...

Also, in my experience, MP3 quality is not really the same as CD quality. Flaws in the bass reproduction seems to be a common problem. (Unless these are simply rips that are done badly?! I am only speaking out of experience with rips made by others, as I haven't tried ripping anything myself yet...)

I like the idea of mods on a vette. The Z51 C6 is a great start & won't need as many mods as a C5 but you know the saying, "if a little is good, more is better, & too much is just enough". :yesnod:

Though on a viper forum I saw this post about modifying vettes:

The C6 is a nice looking car but it ain't got what it takes to be the new King under the hood. Apples to Apples please, otherwise that's the absolute stupidest arguement one can bring up (about saving and modding).

I can buy a old 1986 Fiesta and with the money I save over buying a Vette I can mod that Fiesta to whip ANY C6.
Blah, blah, blah.
Let's hope the C6 Z06 puts them in their place. . :flag

rip them yourself from your own CDs the programs that i have used let you choose what quality you want and with a high quality rip, i can't tell the difference.

as for the C6, there is always more potential

If you think 50 more HP is gonna do it, you are wrong. I have just over 400 HP at the rear and it is not enough while the C6 will have only 340 at the rear. Now maybe a 500 HP Z06 will do but the problem with that is no vert or coupe at those hp numbers.

So if you can not live with the confined hard top (I can't) modding the motor is manitory. Besides the Z is not available this year.

Also, the interior I saw at Detroit's auto show did not impress me. Gone is the passenger hand hold and the whole deal looked to plain to me. Heavy mods needed there IMHO. Also, again the space between the top of the tire and the fenders is still tooooooooooooo big. More 4 wheel drive look. More work needed there to.

The front end is pretty mild. Something is needed there too.

This car will needs tons of mods and I am sure our friends will have them available soon. No mods needs.........just a pipe dream. :smash: :yesnod:  :seeya :steering: :auto: :hurray:

You may be right, some mods may be needed, just maybe not as many. I was hoping we'd get an open-air Z, but Dave Hill says FRC (R&T - yep). So, maybe I'll keep a new C6 cpe a long time, afterall.
With Z-51 though (an option, not a mod), I can forego Baer Eradispeeds, Hotchkiss Sways, Bilstien Sport shocks, new springs/bushings, tranny, oil, and diff coolers, better tires (MAYBE... I have hopes for the F1 supertire r/f - maybe they will be the best of both worlds), and hopefully the shifter and Z-06 ratios will be fine.
And, of course, won't need those BPP non-popups anymore!
