Since, from my experience, most dvd players dont work unless the car is in park or has the ebrake on, will this be the same in the vette. Will we only be able to have a movie playing while parked, and do you think there will be a way to get around it. I mean sometimes the passanger might like watching a movie while on a long roadtrip.
Best part will be playing your mp3s (90 songs per cd), or you can get a dvd burner and make your own dvds.
I hope they won't put the cheap tft screen where you have to look directly at it or you won't see it. The better tft screens can be seen from all different angles.
Most DVD based navigation systems will not play a movie DVD. I am not sure how similar the system in the Vette will be to the system in our Caddy, but I will try to put a DVD in there to see if it plays today. I doubt it, as I asked the dealer and he said no when we bought it.
Go to the Caddy dealer and play in an XLR. That's the exact DVD/Nav system the C6 will have.
It plays DVD movies while the car is in park(or has the hand brake up, can't remember which). So if you want to play them on the road, you need to find out which wire is grounded when the handbrake is up.
Yep, the parents bought a CTS with DVD navigation and the DVD player will only play if the car isn't moving.
The best part IMHO is that the player has DOLBY DIGITAL SURROUND, though I'm not sure if it plays DTS. I know dolby digital isn't anything new, but if you've ever watched a movie in a car where the rear speakers and subwoofer play their tracks in 5.1 surround format, it's AMAZING. I've got a fortune in my home theatre, and I can't come close to replicating the sound in the small enclosure of a car cabin.
:iagree: That's exactly what may make the nav system worth the price. It's not the nav feature, but the 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound. This is the REAL hidden plus of the system. I've read in the XLR forum that it does not play DTS, but does play Dolby Digital 5.1 Just how good does the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound in the CTS? I'd rather have this than compressed MP3 files.
If its the same system in the Cad's you will not be able to defeat the saftey device since the DVD player gets its que from the the outputs of the PCM which is monitoring what gear is selected. You must be in park to operated the DVD. Grounding is not an option since the signal is picked up by the pressure switch in the transmission. These are discreet signals and nothing short of new software will allow the DVD player to play when moving.
anyone try to play a MPEG2, MPEG4, VCD, or DIVX on a caddy nav system...I wonder if the player works with these formates or more importantly will you be able to drive and play a DIVX movie?

Good question. Does anyone know if the caddy system will play mpeg4 audo? for example, .m4a ?

I would guess no since there are only a few home DVD players out that will play all those formats (only SVCD is highly supported). But you can always convert those formats to DVD if you have a DVD burner. The quality isn't very good on a big screen but on that small screen in the dash it would probably look fine.

I agree. but I meant purley the new audio mpeg4 standard. For example .m4a as opposed to the older mp3 standard. If not the dvd player, I was also curious if the cd player will play m4a audio files.
>>>How many speakers are they putting in the C6? Will there be a center channel and a sub channel?<<<
There will be 7 speakers. According to the "slides" that were briefly posted and removed at GM's request there is an all around upgrade to speakers and frequency response.
There are tweeters mounted in a high location and a center channel speaker to improve imaging and soundstage.

Re: How will the DVD player work? (2k2C5)
There will be 7 speakers..... I don't recall any mention of a subwoofer.
A lack of a sub channel would suck. I could be way off but if your info is correct I am guessing:
* 1 center
* 2 high mounted front tweeters
* 2 front woofers in the doors (like the C5 woofers, No C5 twiddlers in doors)
* 2 rear twiddlers in the 1/4 panels (like the C5 rear twiddlers)
If they were smart they would x-over the door woofers properly for music and switch them to the Dolby LFE channel when playing a DVD Digital source.
Now that I think about it, any idea if the DVD player is actually going to send 5.1 info to the proper speakers or will it just do the standard 2-channel mix down? How does the CTS-V system handle a Dobly Digital DVD movie?
Don't assume that a car DVD player is actually sending the proper channels to the individual speakers. This would be very easy to test with any THX Optimode DVD. There should be a test on the DVD that sends sounds to each discreet channel for testing.

You say it knows gear and has to be in park...what if its a M6...wouldnt it have to be run through the ebrake...JW
