Re: Keyless Ignition? How does it work? (travelingypsye)
There is no key at all actually. You have a fob with all your normal buttons that you'd find on current fob (unlock, lock, etc..) The car senses when you are within a certain distance. You can program several different ways, but mainly, it will unlock the door/s for you when you come within distance and as soon as it does that, and you are within the vehicle and push the starter, off you can go. Just like it sounds really. It's really neat. :)

Thanks. My question is now how many people will have a way to simulated the fob signal & steal your car or the signal is interupted via dead battery in fob or car. There has been battery problems with vettes b-4. I maybe old fashion but I like having to put a key in the ignition.

If I remember correctly, it resets the signal between the fob and car every time it is used so as to prevent that from ever happening. Will/does it work against that or can it be defeated? I'll leave that one up to you! :D
Re: Keyless Ignition? How does it work? (HighPerformanceLS1)
All the above, plus ...
The brake (Auto trans) or clutch (manual trans) must be depressed for the button to start the car.
If you are outside and the battery is dead, flip the rear license plate up and there is a keyed access that opens the hatch. Under the hatch, behind the driver's side there are two manual "pulls": one for the gas door and one for the driver's door.
If you are inside the car and for whatever reason the doors won't open, there is a manual pull, to the left of the driver, that will also "pop" the door.
Re: Keyless Ignition? How does it work? (travelingypsye)
It would be very easy to mount a magnetic wand activated ignition disconect solinoid in some odd hard to find location which would make car theft much much more difficult, also lojack is always an option.
Yeah, so what? IT will be asked many times. Lots of new people that can't find answers due to limited search engines. You think it's a DUPE, Move on, don't read it - IMO.

Sorry, having a bad day.[/QUOTE]
Actually, I had a great day! Sorry, did I miss the rule that says you can't post a dupe, where it is due? I didn't do it to be a jackazz. Only to help out my fellow people that already know about this old news. Again, you should :chill: .
Thanks for the reply guys. I didn't know how it worked & was curious. As far as being a duplicate post, I didn't see it on the first 3 pages of this section so I asked. Unlike some people here, I don't have the privilege of being here every day to research all the post. If the battery goes dead, put a key in the hatch area, pull a string inside the hatch to get into the car. Seems like a lot of work to eliminate an ignition key. Has technology outweighed simplicity???
