Bad gas does screw up the guage....tis a fact. Finish that tank and put in some of the good stuff and it will come right back. I belive this is also stated in the owner's manual.
I know a whole lotta people, who have NOT had that problem, including myself.....failure rates get exaggerated here.
:withstupid:
Meanwhile Lexus owners are having problems with frosting inside their headlamp assemblies and having problems with their entire electrical systems going out due to moisture. But just because they have many complaints about these issues doesn't mean that the complainers make up a significant number of owners.

Actually I filled it up with a no name brand and it came right back.
BTW it all comes out of the same barrel of oil so what's the dif?
Oil companies spend mucho on octane testing--it has to be what they say it is or else a jail term for the offender. :yesnod:
I had a '97... Never had a problem with it in 34k miles. However I've read that many people did.
My '02 was back to the dealer the day after I bought it. The leaking differential seal... Common problem on C5's. At least through '02.
Since then, and 18k miles later... Not a single reason to take it back to the dealer.
The C5 has had a few problems, but don't believe Porsche, etc. hasn't.
The upside is that the C6 will improve on the C5. It will have it's bumps in the road, but what car hasn't?
Shared problems:
-Faulty gas gauge
-Driver seat rocking
-Interior panels with excessive panel gaps
-Loud rattles from dash (vent screws working loose.)
Problems on the 2002:
-Delivered with paint blotches
-Oil pressure gauge drops to zero mistakenly
-Passenger door mirror went out 3 times
-Driver seat side bolsters self deflate
Certainly a lot has to do with dealer service issues -- they also installed my seat incorrectly after repairing the side bolsters, so I was sitting on the power seat motor for 140 miles the next day :mad .
Many of the problems Chevy could have fixed, but chose not to. It's the way GM does business. After telling me my wife's Olds Intrigue was fine and that the burning smell "couldn't be identified," an independent shop found it was the PLASTIC intake manifold that was leaking coolant into the engine! Which is an issue on EVERY 3800V6 (and the smaller V6 too) for years. They even had a recall on the new Buicks this year (the recall calls for the official fix to be new stronger bolts and a can of "Stop-leak" -- can you believe it!?!?!?)
I complained to 5 dealers about my wife's Intrigue having the power steering bog-down at parking lot speeds. The last time was a few months ago at my local Chevy/Caddy/Olds dealer...couldn't replicate problem- "never heard a complaint like this" they say. Last month ALL GM sedans from 1996-2000 were recalled for this EXACT PROBLEM!!!
Problems don't get exaggerated that much. The problems happen more than we can document here. Too bad GM and the dealer network can't back up what is an amazing car with at least decent service.

So what aspect of the fuel composition do you think caused the sending unit to not work properly? Your problem is intermittent, as is most fuel sending unit problems. It is a coincidence that you changed fuels types. It had nothing to do with the brand of gas. :)

:iagree: The good stuff...Sunoco 94 Ultra! I've been using it in my 03 Coupe since day one and have had no problems with the fuel guage. :)
