GAS PRICES
Opec is supposed to have a meeting when the price of crude goes above $28.00 a barrel for more than 20 consecutive days and if it drops below $22.00 a barrel for more than 10 consecutive days then they are supposed to have a meeting to address the situation. In our case, this did not happen, instead they decided to cut production begining in April.
The reason for the cut is a drop in demand " Meeting in Algiers on Feb. 10, OPEC unexpectedly agreed to cut oil quotas for the second time in less than five months and reduce its total output by about 10 percent in April because of an expected seasonal drop in demand in the second quarter."
Opec believes that going into April and May, their will be excess oil pumped into the supply chain that will cause the price per barrel to go down. This is BS, because people start to driving more after winter going into spring and surely heading into the summer.
Where is the outrage form America? I do agree that gas is still cheap here in comparison to other countries. One thing about this is when something goes down in the middle east, who do they call on? The good old U.S. Since we have the burden to police the world, our oil and gas should be cheap. I think that opec needs to be reminded of this.

My new infinity sport coupe gets 16 city/ 20highway, 3 yr old BMW 5 series gets 17/24.................. so you see the vette is an economy car!
The highest gas prices got in the US was back in '81, I believe. If prices today were comparable, they'd be about $2.85 or so a gallon, figuring inflation. Maybe closer to $3.00, but right in that area. So actually, prices today are still cheap. Unless you're in Calif, I guess! I think the prices there have a lot more to do with refinery capacity and oil company greed than taxes.
:mad My Mobil raised it's prices 4 times in 3 days.
It capped out at $ 2.11 for 87 reg. A Mobil 6 blocks away is $2.19 for 87 reg. It is probably being raised again while I'm writing this
Fact is, we'll go to war before we change our wasteful lifestyle. Imagine how much more expensive fuel would have to get for commuters before it made economic sense to actually live where they worked or convenient to public transit. Or even find a carpool.
Screw the politics of fuel prices. Take a step back. We're blessed with cheap gas and lots of choices in what we can drive.
I'm always smiling when I'm pumping gas, because I know as soon as I'm done, I get to drive a Corvette every day. I'll pay $6 a gallon before I give that up. I'll just have to cut back on the hookers...

You cant even get higher then 91 octane unless you roll into a speedway. So we are paying higher prices for worthless premium.
Oh well
We have an oil man in the office and hell we have our troops in Iraq! It's costing us 87 billion yeah right we should be getting that oil not just giving them free money and help! Some how these oil companies are screwing us and these taxes are too! The economy runs on fuel don't they know it's hurting us in the long run or maybe do they care?

Just kidding!$1.96 last week for premium....highest I have ever paid in my life....
...but inflation adjusted, not a bad deal IMHO.

Let's see, how much has the median price for a home increased since 1975? How about a gallon of milk? An acre of land? A 2 x 4 ? A 16 ounce rib eye steak? A pound of hamburger? A box of cereal? How much has average household income increased since 1975? Compare that to the price for gasoline and you will see that adjusted for inflation, it has increased little to nothing. We pay more for bottled water than for gasoline
And as far as the government refusing to pay more than $xx a barrel.....the government does not buy our oil for us (thank God). Private companies do. Those that understand Capitalism will always have more money in their pockets, nicer cars in the garage, and a smile on their face. Those that don't are destined to live a life of frustration, anger, and belief in conspiracy theory. Life is short. Pick your battles appropriately. :flag
AMEN
California's "boutique" RFG II is expensive to produce and is only produced by about a dozen refineries in CA. It's constantly referred to as "clean burning fuel", which is mostly bunk promulgated by Sacramento bureaucrats and their cronies in the legislature.
If you want cheaper gas prices, start calling and writting your elected representatives. Ask them to prove that RFG II is "cleaner" and by how much. Data is out there and it shows that the extra price we're paying is providing, at best, a marginal improvement in air quality, and there's not way it passes economic muster when compared to alternatives.

Gas companies claim distribution costs will drive up prices. How come I can drive to the middle of no-where in the Arizona desert, and pay $0.20 to $0.40 less for a gallon of gas...
My problem is I may have to start driving my C5 more frequently. It gets a heck of a lot better mileage than my Toyota SUV (14 MPG..) Actually, that ain't all bad!!
