i dont know if this has been posted but i remember someone asking the cost of the Z51 option. At the NY auto show the Corvette rep said $1,495 for the package
Hottest C6 LS2 = M12 + Z51 = $1310.00 + a little for development cost and inflation.
$1395.00 - $1695.00
I suspect actual material cost to build to GM is less than $500 extra over a std FE1 car + $100 extra in development cost.
I think the option is priced about right from a marketing standpoint. At $2395 many potential buyers would have balked. At $695 (which I would have liked to have seen) GM would have left a lot of profit on the table. $1495 would likely maximize profit for GM. The higher price of the Z51 pkg (Compared to C5) may increase sells of F55 as well.
I am waiting to drive a FE1, Z51, and F55 in person before making up my own mind which system I will opt for.
GM claims they were able to improve handling of the base FE1 car without a ride penalty due to improved suspension travel. however thery also make the same claim of the Z51. I have only opted for a Non-Z51 car once before in 1988 when I found Z52 superior on real world roads.
We will see how they shake out on the new cars.
Having driven a C5 FE1 with Bilstein Shocks and Z06 Anti-Sways I believe the base suspension might be a option as comparing the previous modified FE1 with my C5 Z51 ultimate grip was very close with the modified FE1 being superior over bumpy surfaces and the Z51 having a edge in rapid transitions.
To bad they dont offer the M12 as a stand alone option.
her reply of $1,495 seemed very confedent. Not an "about" figure.
As option prices have not been determined as yet, her answer is Do you really think GM would give her the price on anything even if they were all set in stone?

GM has been receiving numerous questions about the cost of the Z51 pkg from the press and individuals. It is not unreasonable that the reps have been given a price to quote for the shows.
While they may not have decided on the precise price of options I will bet they have a pretty good idea. If she quoted $1495 I would be suprised to see the final price more than 20% from that amount ie no $2995 Z51 and no $395 Z51. I will stand by my $1395-1695 range until proven wrong. Even though I think GM could do it and make a profit on a price as low as $695. If the option exceeds $2000 I will not be a buyer.
At any rate "Another Yellow" in just a couple of more months you will know for sure if the $1495 figure was BS or not...
