Plug covers for 1999 headlights
I need some fix-it-up help. I have probably lost a dozen plug covers off the headlights on my '99 vert. :mad I've tried glue and even the most widely used problem solver...duct tape on the cheap cardboard side of the headlight housing (they saved weight with that stupid design). The new replacement plugs have a "locking" style where you insert the edge into slots and turn the plug to, supposedly, lock it in. But on the '99 the cardboard sides where the hole is to reach the headlight alignment screws does not have the slots to fit the new plugs. :mad So you put them on, turn the headlights off and turn them on again and the plugs fall off down in the bowels of the front end where they cannot be found. Airplane glue holds for a few weeks but in the heat and humidity of Houston they soon fall off. I hate to see the holes with light shining through them at night. It kinda cheapens the look of the Torch Red vert. The ultimate solution is simply waiting for my C6 but I want to fix this before I sell the C5 rather than pass it on to someone else. Has anyone solved this problem. Thanks.
I'll chime in anyway - the only fix I'm aware of is to replace the black trim with the newer style so you can use the new plugs. I think the design changed in 2000.

Order replacement bezels and the new twist lock plugs and your troubles are over. Installation is simple and quick. Besides the larger plugs used on the 97 thru 99 models are no longer available and the new plugs do not fit the older bezels.
I had the same problem. The dealer replaced the bezels and plugs under warranty. Of course this is a late now to have it done under warranty. But it did fix the problem. As suggested in one of the above threads this was a good fix.
