Could GM start lobbying NHRA to allow "stock" convertibles to run without rollbars. Mayber the rule could be any 2000 and later absolutely stock vehicles running 12.50 or slower may run without a roll bar, but must run with the top up. With todays safer cars it sure should be feasible. NHRA probably wouldn't listen to us common folk, but they would listen to one of the major sponsors of NHRA and drag racing. The 13.99 rule is outdated and leaves us with no way to run our cars.
I could not agree with you more. As you stated, I have thought also that NHRA is not responding to the increased safety equipment, and improved structural rigidity of todays cars.
I have run my Convertible a handful of times at a local track. I have been fortunate that just running for fun on "test and tune" times at the track they have let me run without saying anything. But I'm sure if I was running for trophy's they would give me the boot.
