Default 2006 C6's

What month do they start building the 2006's? I want to get the C6, but don't want to buy the 1st year.

I don't care how long you wait, the C6 will ALWAYS have bugs. Just like every generation Corvette before the C6. Every car has bugs. No one has built the perfect car...yet.

Too true, but its common knowledge that your chances are higher with the 1st year of a new car.

Just for fun, how about we start a list of problems that were unique to the 1997 C5 (add the 1998 if you'd like).

I'll go first.....

Hmmmm, well, then there was - no, let me think some more..............

I'll start: excessively noisy fuel pumps (fixed in 99 I think), headlight enclosure inserts popping out

Unfortunately, they never did work out some of the bugs (column lock, fuel guage).

The C6 will probably be the same way. Not the glut of problems that plagued the 1984 vette, but probably just some nagging issues that never seem to get resolved. The keyless start and electronic door handles will probably be the first to start doing goofy things.

Seat belt retractors didn't work right for years.

How about column lock - my first C5 was a 99. That definitely had a problem with column lock. Watched it get towed away on a flatbed.

Rear deck never did open right over the whole model run, at least through 93.

Thanks Thud, while I hope the problems are none to few, it can't hurt to hold off a year on a $50k car. jschindler may be choosing not to remember the past issues.

Go read my challenge again. I said show me problems specific to the 97/98's. So far all ya'll have come up with is a noisy fuel pump, which I've never even heard of (no pun intended). But if that was a problem, that's the only credible one so far.

The other problems mentioned were not worked out for several years (if at all).

Ah...I see you have a C6 on order. It all makes sense now.

Read my original post again. I just asked when the 2006's would be built...no more or less. I wasn't looking to discourage your decision to buy early.

I realize that. If you look at my first post, I was responding to the guy who said he would not buy a first year car because he thinks they are always prone to problems. I'm not trying to defend my position just because I have one on order. I have owned many cars in their first year of production, and frankly I have had less problems with them than wthl many cars I've owned that were not in their first year.

I am sure there will be first year problems, I just don't think it's something to worry about. My first C5 was a 2001 (four years into production). I had to replace the clutch and transmission in the first year, had the fuel guage problem and rocking seat. On the other hand, my 2003, which is now a year and nine months old (with 15,000 miles) has not been to the shop for anything.

I just am amused by the people who won't buy a first year car - so I'm having a little fun with my challenge.

At the C6 introduction at the Detroit Auto Show, Dave Hill said there was no reason to wait until the second year of production as the C6 will be problem free from the start. He was serious about that and I believe him.

Would you really expect him to say "Not sure if I would trust buying a 2005 ... better if you wait a year or two"

July is usually the start of the new models. I too will be looking to buy a '06 C6 but not for the same reasons. I have had 3 1st year vehicles in the past, and never had any problems I could associate with as a being a 1st year bug. I will be waiting til '06 for both finacial reasons as well as a look at the Z06 model.

What month do they start building the 2006's. I want to get the C6, but don't want to buy the 1st year.

Brannon,

My 97 was just shy of the 4,000th car made and not one single problem to date. Note even column lock. Go figure.

Forgot to mention that I said screw all of the recalls including the "leaking fuel tanks". GM mailed that one to me for years!
