Default Allocation question

I think I have a pretty good idea how the order/allocation system works. However, there's one part I'm not clear on:

When an actual "allocation" occurs (during the period where GM is "accepting" orders), is the dealer notified that he has been allocated X cars (with XYZ restrictions) and the dealer then indicates which orders get applied to them, or does GM just automatically accept X orders that the dealer already has in the computer?

What I'm trying to figure out is if there is a "decision window" when you would have the choice to change options, because one or more things on your order are restricted and changing it would allow the order to be designated as one of the "accepted" ones.

I hope I explained the question well enough so that everyone doesn't look at it and go "huh".

If you are "next in line" for an allocation, your dealer should give you the opportunity to change your order if there's a reasonable expectation that your order can be filled with a slight modification. e.g., if you ordered an automatic with G90 performance axle, and G90 is on constraint when he gets the allocation, you should be given the opportunity to pass, or change your order.

The operative words are "should give you the opportunity...." That takes a little extra effort that not all dealers will go through.

Thanks.

Given the situation with the LeMans Blue, I suspect that may hold me up and I don't want to change colors, so the other options may become academic. I will probably find out next week. I can't beleive they've messed up a color they had last year.

On Thursday every week every dealer knows what his allocation is for that order cycle. His allocation shows how many cars he gets and a seperate report shows what restrictions there are for that week. These restrictions can be viewed and his orders adjusted to fits within these restrictions until Saturday afternoon when the actual orders are cycled through the productions system. On the following Tuesday The dealer can view these orders and make changes to them if desired. At the end of the day on Tuesday these orders are then submitted to the production system and can no longer be changed. This cycle repeats starting again the next Thursday. The dealer usually knows what his weekly allocation is for the next month except at the end of a monthly cycle, before the next month is put out. Hope this makes sense and does not cause more confusion but that is how the system works in a nutshell.
