I'll never understand why anyone would always want car payments.
Whether you like it or not, depreciation is a form of car payments. I wrote a check for mine but could have just as easily done the baloon. If the money is in the cookie jar now it would still be there then. What is less important than how you buy it is THAT YOU BUY IT. 5 days since I picked it up and I can't wipe the smile off my face. I've owned some cool cars, but this one is in a league all it's own!
I think there is something in Econ 101 about paying cash for a depreciating equity. Since I drive the hell out of my cars, 50K miles per year leasing would be murder. Using the banks money at 3.9% when my 401 K did +12% last year and 13.5 the year before, it’s a no brainer.
I'll ask the question that I eluded to before. Wouldn't some of the depreciation be gone if you bought used? Would it not be possible to find a 1 year old car where the owner must sell, drive the car a year or 2 and then beak even on your sell?
While I'll admit doing the above might be a little harder with the C6 cars, it certainly would not be out of the question buying a C4 or C5.

To each his own. I don't think anyone would always "want" car payments. But, many people always "want" a new car and no longer like their car after the 5-6 years it took to pay it off (plus, for non-vettes, the car is generally not worth anything after 5-6 years anyway).
Why would anyone listen to you. Like trading for a new car every two years is smart. What a joke. Cars are not investments so by getting money out at the sale just means you paid more in advance and let someone use you money. I do that too. It's called funds. There I make money on my money.
Also, my house is only 4600 sq ft with a 5 car garage. I paid cash two months ago. I am meticulous with my cars or anyone else's for that matter. I'd put my detailing, maintenance technique and schedule up against anyones.
Gosh I'm impressed. But somehow I'm pretty sure it's not impressed in the manner you'd like. More along the lines of lack of maturity in someone apparently so successful. Those who have it don't need to flaunt it. If they do, it shows they still don't have what they want most...
