Default Garage dent prevention--good methods?

C6 order accepted this past week, hopefully I see it before I eat turkey in November. In the meantime, help out a guy who couldn't afford a house with 3 garage stalls. What is the best way to protect the vette from an 8 year old on a bike and a 6 year old who opens her Mom's SUV door "too quickly" sometimes? I've seen multi-layer covers and pads that hang from the ceiling. Anyone have any strong feelings or good experiences in this department?

Your solution may be that the Vette's plastic body panels are ding-resistant. My 2001 C5 has likely survived many unwitnessed contacts with other people's car doors, shopping carts, etc. in the course of its life. Even a minor scrape against stucco was fixed with a buffer & some wax.

In other words, even in the presence of a 6 & 8 year old, don't worry... plastic doesn't dent!

I guess it depends on how you plan to use your car. If it's going to be a weekend toy, purchase a 4-post lift to store the car above the kids. If it's going to be a daily driver, get a good thick car cover. Dent's aren't the problem, it's trying to keep the paint from being scratched.

Easy. Scare your kids into knowing if the car gets dinged it cost more than them to make.

I'd put the SUV outside on the driveway and the kids' bikes in the backyard until they are old enough to know better!

Keep the bikes out. You just need to teach your kids how important the car is to you. My 3 yr old has known for a year already that the Vette is for looking & not touching unless Dad is around. Park your car so that your wife's driver door is next to it...she's likely to be more careful than a kid/friend whipping the door open. How about getting some concrete pier blocks for decks, put in a 4x4 to stop the door fom swinging open?

When I had to park my Corvette in a friend's garage, I double covered mine with first layer being cotten flannel, followed by Evolution (custom fit covers). Then I put heavy duty shipping blankets over that, followed by another cotton cover. Every time I drove the car (several days a week), I uncovered, and recovered the car. Everyone thought I was crazy, but I could sleep at night know that other than a full impact by a very heavy object, nothing was going to damage the car. After years and years, I had no scratches.

Sounds to me like hanging pads would be less time-consuming to use if it's driven very often, but some house rules wouldn't hurt.

Now that is funny Since when has the wife and kids ever listened to dad? You will hear macho stories how some men have control over that stuff, and as we all know they are full of In one ear and out the other.

There is a car cover called Evolution 4 which I believe is the latest car cover in thickness by Kimberly - Clark. Otherwise you might have to kick everybody out of the house.
