missing c6 commercial?
Yeah, I has a buddy over last night and after seeing the Cobalt commercial, we logged on to see the C6 stuff on the chevy site ( he only saw the end of the commercial once ) and WTH
the C6 commercial and making of are GONE!
We went to http://207.153.235.182/ where the commercial and “making of” thing was and there gone too!
does anybody know what happened?

Chevrolet yanked them after getting pressure from "auto safety groups" because it demonstrated "unsafe behavior". Unfortunately, I didn't get to see them, either. A couple of co-workers, knowing I own a Corvette, told me "you gotta see the ad with the little kid!" Guess it won't happen. If anyone saved it to a hard drive and can email it to me, I'd love to see it.

GM Pulls Corvette Ad After Auto Safety Group Complains
DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
August 25, 2004 11:36 a.m.
DETROIT (AP)--General Motors Corp. (GM) pulled a Corvette ad that shows a young boy driving wildly through city streets after safety advocates complained, the company said Wednesday.
Auto safety groups sent a letter Tuesday to GM chairman and chief executive Rick Wagoner protesting the television ad, saying it sent a dangerous message. The ad had been running during the Olympics.
GM spokesman Joe Jacuzzi said the automaker pulled the ad Tuesday in response to that letter and other consumer feedback.
The ad, titled "A Boy's Dream," features a dream sequence in which a clearly underage boy is shown behind the wheel of a Corvette, making unrealistic maneuvers at high speeds.
Judith Stone, president of Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, one of the signers of the letter to Wagoner, welcomed GM's decision. Critics said the boy looked to be about 11 or 12.
"We're delighted that they did the right thing," she said.
Jacuzzi said the ad never was intended to depict a real-life situation.

The commercial is still on the Chevy.com website. I just looked at it to show a co-worker. Go to Chevy.com, click on cars and then corvette and the link to the commercial is sitting right above the car not on the side like it used to be. Have a good one, doug

This makes me ill... pretty soon I won't be able to run with scissors, or walk to the mailbox
Haven't seen the commercial, but I'm 100% certain that Chevy ran this by their corporate counsel before releasing it.
I think it's ironic that Chevy's tag line is an "American Revolution", but when it comes down to it, they caved in to the pressure.
After all, wasn't the REAL American Revolution about civil rights, including the right to free speech?
Save the Wave

Thanx for preempting my own common sense; that sure was a close one! Pulling the Corvette ad from television? You have got to be kidding me. Even though there are disclaimers all over the ad saying that it is a fanciful representation of a dream, and not to be attempted by anyone, you still make them pull it? You are all *****, plain and simple. This ad was brilliant. I'm on the waiting list to buy a C6 Corvette. Am I going to drive like that? No. Is anyone? No. The fact that your organization thinks they are just goes to show what freaking naive morons you all are. Why don't you spend your time on real threats to this nation's highways, like fighting drunk drivers, or saftey in the trucking industry, instead of messing with my television programming. If you are all hell-bent on changing the entertainment industry, why don't you go to the Motion Picture Association of America and have them pull all copies of Ronin and The Transporter while you're at it you morons.

Even though I'm the owner of a C5, I decided to send this email to Ms. Stone:
Ms. Stone,
I recently read that your organization, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, had filed a protest with GM over the recent airing of a commercial introducing the new Chevrolet Corvette C6. I was further saddened to see that GM had caved to your request to have the advertisement removed from the airways. In your protest, you complained that it was "the most dangerous" spot you had seen in recent years because the ad shows a young boy, aged 11 or 12, driving the car in a reckless manner. As a Corvette enthusiast I have only these words for you...
"YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!"
To insinuate that a television commercial about a young boy driving a car in a reckless manner will induce young children to take their parent's cars and drive them in a reckless manner is simply absurd!!! When was the last DOCUMENTED time you can present where anything like this has happened? My guess is that you can't. Your protest has absolutely no merit and you should be ashamed of yourself and your organization for presenting it.
Using your twisted rational for presenting the protest, I wonder how soon it will be before automobile racing will be banned from television. God only knows that as soon as some young child sees a race on television, he or she will run outside to take their parent's car, gather some friends together and race through the streets! Watch out...the children have gone mad!!!!!
Bring yourself back to the real world, where parents exercise some form of control over their children. I am personally sick and tired of people of your ilk trying to tell me what I can and can't do, and what I can and can't watch! Find something more constructive to be concerned about!!!

It's sad for sure. I guess the Cobalt/C6 ad will be pulled now because it's going to entice people to bump the person in front of them at traffic lights, thus enticing the person in the front car to smoke the wheels into a 180 from a dead stop. Which I'd actually like to try.
Did anyone read the article on Reuters? There's a quote from the letter to GM where in an analogy used to make their point, they use the word kegger.
Like, uh, heh-heh, they said "kegger", heh-heh, heh-heh

I too sent a letter to Ms. Stone. She should be greatful for interfering, self-righteous people protecting her from morons like herself.
Otherwise, she might not have made it in life to be here to protect us from ourselves.
OK, Im done.
