My Pred C-6 was only ordered with a transparent top. Now that I have it I really like it. Glad I did this as it kept me off constraint. So, when I order a solid top I was considering painting it C-6 black. I like this look. This would eliminate color match issues. What do you think! Please, no flames, honest answers.
I persoannly would have the top painted Precision Red if I was in your shoes.
But if Black is what you like then go for it.
NOW:
If you are only considering black because you are afraid of the color match, I'm sure a good shop could match that Precision Red perfectly.
When I bought my C5 in Sept 2001 I only got the transparent top also. So I bought a solid Arctic White top from someone on Ebay and had it painted Electron Blue. Perfect Match! When I had that done Electron Blue was as new to Corvettes as Precision Red is now.
So if the color match is what's holding you back, I would say don't let that hold you back.
Another thing about the color match is that there is very little other Precision Red that comes adjacent to the roof panel, Only along the rear of the roof and then it is just that small portion. You have glass to the front and both sides of the rood panel.
............One more note on the two tops. I really wanted that solid top when I first got the car. So I went on Ebay, found one right away, got it painted and now I just about never use it.
I really like the glass top.
The car takes on a very different appearance inside and out with the body colored top.
I really liked the glass top and would have gotten one with the C6 if Chevy hadn't deleted it from my order. Maybe you can find someone with a black painted top and try it on for size...I mean looks.
Thanks for the great response! Looks like I will probably paint it Pred. I like the stock look, and your are all right that matching should not be an issue. John
