Default Radar Detector Install

Had a 2000 C5, and under the passenger footwell, their was an aux power wire which was perfect for a hardwire install of a radar detector. I have my Valentine one all ready, waiting for my C6 to be delivered, and wondering if it has the same feature as the c5??

In the C5, if you pulled up the passenger floor mat, their was a compartment closed with a couple of latches. When you opened it their was a loose orenge capped off wire, wiht no aparent purpose. That was a "Hot" 12 volt wire that was keyed to the ignition switch. Hook up your radar power to that, and you were in business.

Default Radar Detector

I'm gonna guess the wire is not there. My friend has an 2000 c5 and hard wired his that way.
But I have an 04 and he tried to do the same with my Valentine this weekend and, lo and behold, not the same wiring as the 00.
He called me and told me there are wires there but they are behind the fuse panel in the footwell and not as easily accessed.
There are three accessory fuse ports not used but with no fuses in place. Looks like trial and error but if anyone has hardwired one in the 2004/ C6, please let us know. Thanks.

I installed an add-a-circuit this weekend. Used the wpr/washer fuse, found in the covered smaller box to the left of the main fuse box under the passenger floor. This circuit turnes off with the ignition and also is a 10 AMP circuit. You need to bring the wire out the side and bottom of this smaller fuse box. Used one of the screws that holds the fuse box for a ground. I could not find a switched fuse in the main fuse box.
I place the radar detector to the right of the mirror with the suction cups just off the black tint. Cups would not hold on the black bumps very well.

i was reading a forum before and for a C5 it said that you can hardwire to the rear view mirror, i don't remember what forum it was in so you might have to do a search.

I saw a thread mentioning coming off the wiring harness that goes to the mirror. It would keep you from wiring all the way down to the footwell. Take a volt meter and find the ground and ignition controlled hot wire. It could be tapped into with a little ingenuity. I'm trying that first. DSOM coming in Friday.

Like the stereo situation with the new C-6 makes sure the BCM code matches the code in the stereo.......
