for the price of a new C6, i have found a used good condition C4S which is basically a 911 TT without the turbos. i post this here knowing i will get C6 biased opinions. thats what i want. i want to know how the C6 is superior or not. also, if any of you have a C4S or other 996 based 911's to voice your opinions as well. so far, i know from seeing both cars that the performance edge (slight) goes to the C6 but the C4S is built with a jewel like craftsmanship lacking in the C6. attention to detail in the C4S is nothing short of incredible. having said that, the C6 does have a nawrly 400hp/tq. anyway, let me know what you guys think. here is a pic of a C4S similar to what i am looking at.
I'm Sorry...there is no way I can give anything close to an objective answer to your question. I know you are serious and deserve a serious answer but for my money this is the best car on the planet for the money.
I wish you luck on your decision. I would council you to go with the C6
I owned a 2001 Twin Turbo, and while it was an awesome handling car and incredibly quick, I was not that impressed with the quality. Mine had a sticker in excess of $130K so it was equipped with almost every option. Fit and finish were ok, but not what I would expect in a car at that price. Interior was only average, again not what I would expect in that price range. The car had rattles, wind noise, road noise, and a horrible sound system. I was so unhappy that I sold it after only a year. I have a c6 ordered but am debating whether to wait for the Z06. For the difference in price my expectations aren't as high for the Corvette as far as quality, but everything I have seen leads me to believe it will be the equal of the twin turbo I owned. Perhaps my Porsche experience was unusual, but I was disappointed in the quality.

Some people buy sports car for the looks and/or the image. Some people buy it because of performance. I sold my nsx to my rich brother, who did not know what the difference between hp and torque is. He only wanted to own a "sport" car that he could take to the country club. I am trading to the C6 because I needed more hp and torque. A whole bunch of my friends are disappointed that I would trade an nsx to buy a C6. However, again, it's the goal of each person, and to each his own.
I have driven both back to back to back. From Manual to Auto and vice versa on both and the 911 does not come close to the surefootedness and drivability that the C6 has. The interior of the C6 is also every bit as good if not better than the porsche. Every one of these test drives was done one right after the other on a road course that showed the highlights and faults of each car the same way. In my opinion the C6 begs to be driven while the Porsche you have to beg to get it to drive.
tough call. I'd say get the C4 if you desire a car that will have better resale, and more "pinache." The C2 I drove felt soooo slow with tip tronic. I mean slowww. I think the 4 is supposed to be faster. Maintenance on an awd porsche is murder. Get a very good warranty or forget it. I never drove the C6 yet but if you like feeling exclusivethen dont buy one bc in 2-3 years you will be one of many. I also think the porsche is very bland in design. I'd say the vette looks better, just not as quality(as you expect for the price).

You mean a C4S looks like a turbo, it sure won't perform like a turbo. A 911 TT has 420HP and the C4S has 300 HP. A 2002 C4S has 320 HP but that car will cost you around $68K.
So you are trying to tell us that a 400 HP C6 has only a slight performance edge on a 300 HP C4S? Well I haven't driven a C6 but I have driven a C5 and it was much faster than the 2002 C4S that I drove. I'm sure that the awd 911 gives you great grip but it sure didn't impress me with its acceleration. Also, if you are going to buy a Porsche you better read the Porsche forums and learn about RMS leaks. Many 996s leak oil from the rear main seal and the fix requires in many cases that the engine be replaced. Even if only the seal is replaced you are talking about over a thousand dollar repair bill. Some 996 owners claim that they have had their rear seals replaced three times under warranty. So if you buy a 996 you better get a Porsche certified car with an extended warranty which by the way you can't from a private sale. Oterwise you may be in for some huge maintenance costs.
IMO the C4S is better than the C6 only in the area of prestige. If that's important to you, and it is to lots of people, buy the C4S with an extended warranty. But if you want the peace of mind of a new car with a new car warranty, and not the risk of buying someone elses problem car, buy the C6.
I know a couple people with C2 and C4s Porsches. Both are fairly unhappy with them. Don't expect better reliability with the Porsche--based on what I've heard, admittedly not a proper poll, the Porsche is less reliable than the Chevy.
How do you plan to use the car? The C6 has a lot more room for luggage, golf clubs, etc. I laugh when my friends show up to the course in their Porsches and have to struggle to get their clubs out of the passenger seat.
I think the Porsche is a beautiful car. However, it's going to look a little dated now that the 997 is hitting the market. It's not that big a deal, as the changes are minimal, but there's something to be said about having the latest look.
I had a 2003 c4s. It was a great car, I hit 154 in it and it has plenty of room left in it. I sold it to one of employees and he really likes it. The c6 is a totally different vehicle. The c6 is raw horsepower and is a bunch more fun to drive. The porsche doesn't turn heads like the c6. Porsche has become a real common car where I live and the just seem to be played out. If you by a porsche, get a turbo. Or save 60k and get the c6.
thanks for the replies. i am leaning towards the GT3 after much thought and reading ect... but have to see if i can swing the price difference.
i have a 450hp C5 coupe right now that i plan on keeping regardless of what i get. to the meat heads who question my posting here about a porsche, go back and read my original post. i said i am posting here to get the pros of getting the C6 so maybe i might drop the whole porsche idea altoghether after i hear from vette+porsche owners.
read the post so you can reply correctly or just STFU and all that
