I can't disagree with you about the quality issue, especially when some very high quality cars like the Honda Accord are sourced primarily from North America. If Honda can put such a nice interior in their $20,000 car, Chevy ought to be able to get close with their $50,000 car. I think they've gotten lots closer with the C6, but still a little ways to go.

I understand, but I'm not concerned about bragging rights or what the car mags say.

What I am saying is this....If lexus can use top grain leather, quality plastics, and even through in a power hard top......why cant GM merely match the quality. I dont want wood, I want carbon fiber. I dont want painted plastic I want real aluminum. If other quality car makers can do it why cant GM? See my point? I'm tired of reading magazines about rubbermaid interiors, and squeaks and rattles etc. Being a loyalist, dont you want to read an article one day where they cant find a single serious thing wrong with the car? I'm sure they could do that (and do in the form of the XLR) but the question is 'Would you be willing to pay $60,000 to $70,000 for that?"

Time and time in these threads you see the same theme, why doesn't GM give us this, why doesn't GM give us that... but at the same time every gripes over the cost of the car....

Sure GM can give us more refinement, a unique steering wheel, a unique radio, better leather, nicer trim, a paddle shifted clutchless transmission (hmm sounds alot like a Ferrari 360 Modena, and how much does it cost and how many are sold???).... But they would sell so few of them due to the price... why bother....

I like the Corvette for what it is, a car that offers exotic car performance, can carry enough bags for the wife and I to get away for a long weekend, get 29 MPG on the highway (at a cruise of 75) and be affordable..

And let's not forget the aftermarket.. all the areas that people view as substandard, there are aftermarket providers that can let you customize your Vette how ever you please (I'm not sure on the Porsche's and Ferrari's if there is that level of aftermarket support)...

I already answered your question. The money goes into that luxury / nice stuff on the Lexus and into performance and lightweight on the 'vette.

It would cost more to have both.

See I must disagree. Perhaps not everyone can see eye to eye on this, and that is perfectly fine.

My thinking is that GM is using technology that they have had since the C%(and have financially recovered from) engine wise. So we are not truly paying for that. No new technology with the powertrain if you think about it.

So where is the money going? Think about it. Thats all this thread is about.

Analysis to the point of paralysis.

Slithytove has explained it very well, but you do not want to hear the explanation.

Cheers!
