Default C6 purchasing question

Does anyone on the forum have any experience with getting a "lock" on a trade in value for their car (C5 in my case), within an acceptable # of miles driven while waiting for the order to arrive, then ordering a C6 (preferably for museum delivery, but this is not a must-have option)? I'm looking for a somewhat uncommon combination e.g. all options except OnSpy and red exterior/red interior, so the odds of finding one of those on the locator is very slim. Sorry if this has been covered before but I did a forum search and checked the FAQ. No info. I know this can be done as I did it with the last two Trans Ams I ordered from a small dealer who has always been excellent to me... however he's TOO small and can't get a vette allocation. The option of selling the car outright really isn't an option as it's my daily driver. Suggestions and/or experiences, anyone? Thanks.

I don't know about a lock, as the blue book changes in early Nov, I think. But, you should have a real close idea, barring anything unforseen. My dealer basically gave me the numbers beforehand, and how much they'd change in Nov.(although the numbers aren't written down, he's a good friend) Maybe you could sell the old car to your local dealer, while a forum dealer arranges a Vette shipped to your location.
