Default C6 recall

Safety Recall 04086
Certain 2004-2005 Cadillac XLR and 2005 Chevrolet Corvette model vehicles were produced with one or both rear brake hydraulic lines that can come in contact with or be affected by heat from the left engine exhaust manifold and the left exhaust pipe.

Also, on some 2005 Cadillac XLR and Chevrolet Corvette model (C6) vehicles, the crossover brake line to the right rear brake can come in contact with the rear differential case during severe driving maneuvers. If either of these conditions exists, rear brake function could be affected. There are approximately 5,200 U.S. vehicles involved in this recall.

C6 Part at bottom of the pageHere is the proof, 4 days after I posted it. To all of you that emailed & sent PM's saying that I was full of sh@t and not to post any more, don’t worry. Next time I get anything I won’t bother. Most of you guys think your better then anyone who does not own a C6 The only reason I posted anything was because my friend has worked for GM in Detroit for 37 years!

I'd check with Ken Fichtner on this. He seems to be willing to share this sort of info.

Good luck

So what's the fix for this in the associated TSB? Does Mr. Goodwrench just reach up and bend the lines with his hands to bend them away from these areas? I wouldn't be surprised if that's the only fix.

Sounds to me that you can do that yourself rather than leaving your baby at the dealership all day.

Maybe some hanger bracket that keeps the lines at a safe distance is missing.

Otherwise, if it's an easy DIY fix, maybe someone can post a pic...

Interesting how it affects both Caddys and Vettes. Being built on separate production lines it must be part-related and not installation-related.

Every problem has a duct tape solution.

Keeping this string alive (obviously)... my car is running fantastic but sometimes under throttle there is a slight rubbing noise from I think the rear section or the drive train. Almost sounds like the rear tire rubbing ever so slightly.. since I am nervous it could be a brake line I jacked it up tonight. What a marvel under there! Anyway both brake rear lines seem clear all the way to the tunnel and free of moving parts.

Shades of 1997 - the first C5s had a recall issued almost as soon as they came out.
